I Want You Back

I fidgeted with the bracelet on my wrist as me and Cristiano waited for the starter. Our first official date had started on a disastrous note. Between him buying flowers that I was allergic to and the awkward conversation, I was already starting to think that maybe I had made the wrong choice.

“I’m sorry for ruining tonight”

Cristiano spoke breaking the silence that had developed over the last few minutes. I looked up at him as I saw the genuine disappointment in his eyes.

I shook my head no before speaking.

“You didn’t ruin anything. I’m just being rude and making you feel bad for something you’ve tried the whole night to fix”

I smiled after that causing him to relax.

He took a deep breath before speaking again.

“You don’t like this place do you?”

He commented as I was taken aback.

I opened my mouth to protest but he asked me not to lie.

“No. not really. It’s not my type of place” I finally admitted as I shifted in my seat.

Cristiano nodded before calling the waiter over.

“Wait? What are you doing?” I begged as he laughed.

“Treating my girl to something that she likes” he admitted before paying the bill and taking my hand so we could leave the restaurant.

We exited via the kitchen as Cristiano made a phone call to someone. He spoke in Portuguese so I couldn’t really hear what he was saying.

“You’ll love this”

He said as he gave me his jacket and led me into his car.

“Do you want to tell me where we are going?” I questioned as he began to drive off to a region in Madrid we didn’t usually frequent.

“Nope it’s a surprise” he smirked as I rolled my eyes. “But while we make our way there why don’t you tell me about your childhood”

He encouraged as he laid his hand on my thigh. I couldn’t help but be surprised at his suggestion but I let it go as I prepared to tell him a bit about myself.

“Well I’m born and bred Catalonian. And I had your normal childhood. In between the overprotective brothers and fake friends I never really had much drama. I think the most scandalous thing I ever did was flash a teacher because I wanted to get this guy I liked out of detention” I admitted as the car stopped suddenly.

“You? Flashed a teacher?” Cristiano asked in shook. I nodded my head before he started the car and asked me explain what had happened.

As I retold him, the story I couldn’t help but feel relieved at the effort he was putting in. the old Cristiano would have yawned through the story and talked about himself. But as we sat and laughed about my high school story I realised that the man in front of me had changed and it was only for the better.

As I watched Marley talk animatedly about her childhood, I held in the smile that threatened to break out as I watched her relax. In our previous spell as a couple, I had never seen her be this energetic or happy and it gave me great pride to know I was the reason behind her smile and comfort.

Marley story stopped right as we reached our destination.

As she took in where we were she turned to me and raised an eyebrow.

“You closed down McDonalds?” she said in confusion.

I nodded before scratching my neck and preparing to explain to her why.

“It’s not the McDonalds part that I wanted to close down but rather the playground” I said as I pointed to the swing set and obstacles that the fast-food restaurant had to offer as entertainment. “Carles mentioned that you were never really allowed to play rough when you were younger so I just thought it would be nice if you got to replay your childhood for just one night”

She seemed on the verge of tears as I explained what I had done.

It took her a few minutes before she could speak.

“Thank you Cristiano. You really didn’t have to do this”

I shook my head no before walking out the car and helping her out too.

“I want to show you how important you are to me. This is only the beginning. I plan to show you every day how much you mean to me” I admitted before leaning in and giving her a kiss.

She blushed at the action before tugging on my hand.

“Do you wanna try out the swing sets” she asked as she pouted.

I teased her for a while before answering.

“Sure why not?”

I laughed as we walked closer to the area.

But before we got on the swings to turned to face me.

“Just in case I forget to say this because of my happiness, I want you to know that this is the best date ever” she smiled before kissing me and running towards a swing.

I quickly followed after as I, realised mission one of getting Marley back was truly underway and my one upping Cesc was almost complete.
