We're Home

Charlene sat in bed and looked at her phone. Five missed calls and a message from James. She frowned. Maybe it was just a butt dial. She listened to the message.

“Hey sexy!” There was loud music in the background and James sounded drunk. “I think I’m in love with you. I like to watch you in work. You're just so pretty. So so so so sooooooo pretty” The message went on like that for another three minutes. Charlene hung up the phone and deleted the message quickly. Claude would be done in the shower soon and she didn’t want him to know about James bothering her. She didn’t want him getting worked up like he did at the charity event.

She put her phone down next to her and turned on the tv as Claude sat down next to her in bed. “You ready to go home tomorrow?” He asked.

“Yeah.” She replied. She secretly wanted to stay and avoid going back to work. She didn’t need any more drama. She sighed and closed her eyes as Claude put his arm around her and turned out the light.

“Honey,” Claude shook her awake, “we landed.” Charlene opened her eyes. “We’re home.”

“Awesome.” Charlene stretched and rotated towards him. “I don't want to go back to work though.” She sighed.

“Yeah.” Claude replied. “Neither do I.”

“You don’t have a real job.” Charlene smiled as she stood up and started walking off the plane.

“Its kind of a real job.” He said.

“I’ll give you that.” She grinned.

“How was your little trip, Charlene?” James asked as he leaned up against the door of Charlene’s office.

“I hate you.” She said.”

“What are you talking abou?” He asked. “I’m a nice guy.”

“No!” Charlene exclaimed as she stood up from her desk. “No. You are not a nice guy, and you know what? I’m done with your shit, James.” She picked up her purse, cellphone, and some papers. “You can tell daddy that I’m done.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I quit. Right now.” She walked passed him and out the door. “And, no, I will not give you two weeks notice or any of that shit. Good luck finding someone to do this job that’s hot enough to stare at all day like you did to me.” Charlene took the papers on her hand and threw them in the air as she stepped into the elevator.

“Fuck you, Charlene!” James yelled as the doors closed. Charlene smiled at the image in her head of her ex coworkers laughing at James as he threw his little tantrum.
