Teenage Casanova

THAT GIRL

Keep calm, Harry.

Harry felt like his heart was about to beat right out of his chest as Luca pulled the door open. He imagined this gorgeous girl standing on the other end, actually deciding on going with him. He imagined them spending the entire night talking. And then he imagined going back to her room and giving her a great time.

But everything he imagined that would happen was shattered when the door opened and there stood an older woman with a maid cart.

Harry’s face dropped and so did his heart. He couldn’t believe it. He had actually been stood up for the first time in a long time. How could that have happened? He thought he did a good job impressing her. Didn’t he?

It was true; he did get off the impression that she was wary of him. But he thought that maybe she would get over that and go out with him. That maybe they would have a great time and she’d want him as much as he wanted her.

But she didn’t come and he actually felt sad.

“She didn’t show…” Harry turned around and walked to the window. He leaned his hands against it and sighed. She didn’t show…

Why was he so upset about this? She was just a girl. A random girl that he hardly knew anything about. He had never been so hung up over someone before and had never been this upset being stood up.

So why now? Why this girl? Why was she driving him absolutely insane? No girl has ever made him feel so… weak.

That’s how he felt. He felt weak. Luca had warned him long ago to not get attached. To not get worked up by some chick. He did his best to listen, but now…he had no idea why this was happening. He felt like he had been rejected. He practically had, right? She had flat out rejected him.

And he did not like being rejected.

“Mate,” Luca spoke up, looking towards his friend. “Turn around, dude.” Harry groaned and spun around, imagining Luca with some smirk on his face. He knew he would be taunting him. That’s all he did when something was obviously bothering Harry, so why wouldn’t he? But he stopped dead in his tracks when he faced in his direction, his eyes focusing on the outside of the door.

He could almost feel himself involuntarily shuffling towards the door, his eyes seeming like they were about to pop right out. There she stood. He couldn’t believe how absolutely beautiful she looked.

The girl had traded in her normal pastel, cute colors for something completely different. She wasn’t the normal “cute” Kennedy that Harry had met the last few times. Truthfully, she was flat-out sexy.

He let his eyes wander down her ensemble, starting at the black sunhat (her trademark), across the sleeveless black dress that stopped just above her knees, and onto the ratty pair of black Converses that adorned her feet.

“Converses,” he laughed silently in his head. “Of course she would.”

But still, all in all, she was the normal “hat girl” that he had met before. The dark jewelry she wore still had a girlish, sweet twinge to it. Her dark, smoldering makeup still portrayed the doe-eyed look that she pulled off so well. She was still herself, and Harry didn’t understand how someone could pull something like that off and still hold true to their identity so well.

Harry was honestly surprised that she was even standing there in front of him, let alone looking how she did. She looked downright sinful, and it made his job even tougher. He was supposed to be the one making the girls nervous, but this one was doing a hell of a job getting to him.

“Kennedy,” he let out a breath of relief as a smile crept upon his face. “You came.” He wanted to just reach out and kiss her right then and there, but he didn’t want to risk the chance of her running away.

“Here I am.”

“Please,” he grinned widely, stepping out of the way, “come in.”

She gave a friendly smile and stepped inside, looking around. “You know, I kind of expected this place to be a mess.”

“Really? I’m actually very neat, thank you very much,” he closed the door behind her and turned back. “Kennedy, this is my best friend Luca. Luca, this is Kennedy.”

Luca put his drink down and took Kennedy’s extended hand, lifting it up to his lips and kissing it gently. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Kennedy. I’ve heard so much about you.”

For some reason, Harry couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy watching Luca put on his charm. He didn’t understand why, but he couldn’t help but feel like ripping her away from him so he could have her all to himself.

Kennedy blushed, looking away a bit and retracting her hand. “You too,” she tried to turn her focus back to Harry and he couldn’t help but see the hesitation in her eyes. “Look, Harry…about tonight…”

He knew it. Those same feelings he had when he thought she wasn’t going to come were surfacing again. She was backing out. She didn’t come to go out with him; she came to reject him.

“You’re not cancelling on me, are you?” He walked towards her, making a pouty face. “I was really looking forward to us spending time together. Please tell me you aren’t cancelling. I would be devastated.”

He could see the torn look on her face and knew that he was starting to get to her. She only needed a little more push. Or, in this case, a guilt trip.

“Please say you’ll go. I wouldn’t want to go to this party without you. It would be no fun,” he smiled sweetly at her which earned him a chuckle from Luca. He knew exactly how Harry was playing. And by the look on Kennedy’s face, it was working. “Please say you’ll go, Kennedy.”

She sighed, glancing back up at him. “It’s just for fun, okay?”

“Oh, of course,” he touched his hand to his chest, smiling. “Just friends.”

“Just friends,” she warned him with a smile.

“Then shall we go?” He held his hand out for her, but she turned it away and walked past him.

Harry couldn’t help but stare at her as they walked down the hall. She was so gorgeous and he wished so much that the entire night could blur by and he could spend the night with her.

“To be honest with you, I’m still not too keen on going,” Kennedy turned to face Harry and leaned against the wall. “I’m not really a hanging out type of person.”

“What type of person are you then?” Harry leaned in a little close, much to Kennedy’s discomfort. He was so focused on her that he could see her squirming just a little. He loved doing that to girls. He loved watching that change in expression from being okay to being completely surprised by his actions. It usually turned out good for him, but he should have known Kennedy would be a challenge. She opened her mouth to reply, but was saved by the bell. Or rather, in this case, the elevator doors opening.

Harry stumbled a bit as Kennedy moved away from her spot quickly and walked into the elevator. He couldn’t help but laugh as he regained his balance. He glanced in her direction, smirking. She’s something else.

The elevator ride from their floor down to the lobby was filled with nothing but dead silence. He wasn’t sure why she wasn’t saying anything, but he knew he was too consumed in staring at her to say anything.

He noticed her eyes move from staring down at her feet to meeting his and he knew he was caught. “Why are you staring at me? It’s kind of creeping me out.”

“Oh, sorry,” Harry couldn’t believe that he actually felt embarrassed. He had gotten so lost in her that everything else around him was oblivious. Why did she hold such an effect over him? “You’re just so beautiful.”

This time Kennedy was the one blushing. She opened her mouth to speak, but sighed in relief when the elevator reached the lobby. She hurried out and began walking, Harry tagging not too far behind.

“So, can I ask you something?” Harry came up beside her, his head tilted slightly so he could see her face and a smile creeping slowly upon his face.

“I suppose so,” she tried her best to avoid his eyes. “What is it?”

“You said you weren’t sure about going out tonight. Were you really going to cancel on me?”

“In my defense, I never actually said I was going to come.”

Harry couldn’t help but laugh. She was so defensive and he loved it. She would definitely be some fun tonight. He would make sure of that.

“So what made you change your mind?” He grinned as their eyes finally met. He couldn’t help but feel his heart begin to beat fast just by the look she held. She was so…serious. She looked like she was having an inner crisis as she tried to come up with something to respond with. And just the look of confusion on her face was too adorable for him not to smile.

“Well…I suppose…I thought it would be fun. That’s all.”

“You thought it would be fun? That’s all?” he moved in front of her, his feet continuing as he faced her and walked backwards. “Are you sure it’s not because you wanted to see me again?”

She rolled her eyes and walked around him. “In your dreams, casanova.”

“If I said I saw you in mine last night, would that make you like me?”

She let out a huff. “No, I think that would make rethink my decision of coming with you.”

He was actually surprised by her answer. Usually his coy moves worked so well for him, but for some reason she wasn’t being drawn in. And he had no idea why. He wasn’t used to rejection.

“Well, okay,” he laughed nervously, trying not to seem so impacted by her choice of words. “I was just kidding with you, you know?”

“Oh, I know,” she smiled over at him, which calmed him down a bit. “Chill out, Harry. You seem nervous.” Was she…teasing him?

He was so caught off guard and wasn’t exactly sure what to say. She had basically turned the tables on him. She was the one doing the teasing and she was the one driving him crazy at the moment.

How the hell did that happen?

He tried to shake his weird and confusing feels as their short walk from the hotel to the club was over. He wished, for only a moment, that it could have been longer so they could have more alone time together. But once he realized how ridiculous and out of character he was being, he snapped back to that same attitude.

He held the door open, his finger running across the open skin on her back as she walked in. He couldn’t help but smirk to himself when he saw how affected she was over the small connection. She paused for a moment, obviously trying to wrap her head around what he had done. She shook her head and continued her way in, Harry following and soon enough leading her right towards the bar.

“I’m not legal,” she protested as he shot two fingers to the bartender.

“Well, I won’t tell if you won’t,” he held one of his fingers to his mouth, making a hushing pose before smiling. “You need to relax anyway. You seem so tense.”

She sighed and nodded slowly, knowing he was somewhat right. “One drink, okay?”

“One drink,” he promised as he shifted his position so his full attention was her. “So, Kennedy.”

“So…Harry?” Kennedy raised an eyebrow, curious as to what he had planned.

“Tell me about yourself.”

“That’s vague,” she laughed, which made him smile. She had such a cute laugh and he was drawn to her even more every time he witnessed it. “What exactly do you want to know?”

Once again, she had caught him off guard. He was so used to just asking the girl to talk about herself and they would comply and spill their guts about nothing he was particularly interested in knowing. He never actually had to be the one to ask the questions.

He felt like he was saved by the bartender when the drinks were placed in front of them. Harry grabbed ahold of them and pushed one over in Kennedy’s direction. She gave a short smile before taking the glass in her hands, obviously hesitating on drinking.

“Not so interested in knowing anything about me now, huh?”

Harry placed his cup back down after taking a drink and made a face at her. “Why would you think that?”

“You haven’t exactly asked me anything. What, did you just expect me to blab on and on about myself until something interesting came up?” He was actually surprised that she knew exactly what he was thinking.

“You’re very blunt, aren’t you?” Harry smiled, leaning in towards her. “Alright, let’s see. Tell me about…your life at home.”

“My life at home, huh?” she grinned as she brought her glass to her mouth and took a drink. “Well, I’m very popular.”

“Really?”

“No way,” she chuckled as she leaned her elbow on the bar and rested her head against her hand. “I’m actually probably one of the least popular people.”

“Popularity is overrated,” he shrugged.

“Says the boy who I can guarantee was one of the most popular kids at his school.”

“You’re talking about me, right?” Harry rolled his eyes, moving just a bit closer to her. She grinned and leaned away. “Well, if you must know for a good chunk of my life I was a nerd.”

“I don’t believe that for a minute,” she moved her body and faced him, one of her legs crossing over the other. She narrowed her eyes at him and crossed her arms, as if she was demanding the truth out of him. “You’re a good looking guy. I’m sure you had girls all over you.”

“You think I’m good looking?” he smiled widely and leaned in, his face just inches from hers. Kennedy couldn’t help but laugh as she moved his face away, obviously a little uncomfortable with the closeness. Harry grabbed her hand quickly, laughing right along with her. “It’s okay, you can admit it.”

“Hey, I’m not denying the fact that you’re not good looking. I think you just like teasing me with my own words.”

“I’d have to agree with you there. You’re quite fun, Kennedy. I just can’t help myself,” Harry finally let go of her hand and moved just a bit away, but still close enough to make her nervous. “Really though, I was a huge nerd. I had glasses and zits and I had no muscle on me whatsoever. I think before high school I had gotten my head pushed into a toilet at least twenty-three times. And then high school rolled around and I started working out and all that nerdiness just vanished when I started taking better care of myself.”

Harry paused quickly after talking, realizing that the tables had turned once again. He was doing all the talking now and talking about his life. How did that happen? He was so used to learning about the girl that he never had to talk about himself. And yet this girl had once again caught him by surprise.

He was losing it. Had had to be, right? His game didn’t include casual conversation. He was supposed to be putting on his charm and getting her to fall for him. And yet he felt like he was so far from that point. If Luca were there, he would have definitely gotten chewed out.

He knew it was time to change his tactics. He got up from the bar once he watched her finish her drink and held his hand out. “Want to dance?”

She eyed his hand for a while before looking back up at him. “What happened to ‘just friends’, huh?”

“Friends can dance,” he urged his hand forward and did his best to pull her in with his eyes. “Come on…it’s just a dance.”

He watched that same torn look she always had appear on her face again as she looked away. He sort of wished that she would stop fighting it. He just wanted her to give in already. But where was the fun in that? He hadn’t had a good chase in such a long time and a part of him was loving it.

Harry pulled her close quickly as she gave in and took his hand. She let out a small gasp as their bodies smacked into one another’s and her eyes were quickly locked with his again. His stomach subconsciously dropped as he stared right into her huge blue eyes. They were so lovely and he knew that he was the one being pulled in.

Why was she so different? What was it about her that he kept losing touch with who he was? He just couldn’t wrap his mind around it no matter how many times he had asked himself. She was a beautiful girl. He was a good looking guy. There wasn’t supposed to be these unknown feelings in the mix.

So why was he feeling them? Why couldn’t he just let go of those stupid thoughts he had whenever he looked at her? He knew what he wanted to do. He knew that all he wanted was to sleep with her. So why was it so hard to just focus on that?

“Friendly dance,” she uttered under her breath which brought him back to the scene. Harry tried to slow his heart rate and ignore the voice in his head that was telling him that he needed to get away from this confusing girl. He just pushed out his best smile and pulled her by the hand towards the group of people who were already dancing.

They weaved their way through the crowd as he found a good spot for them to dance. He knew he wasn’t much of a dancer, one of his many flaws, and he hoped that wouldn’t ruin his chances. But as he watched her instantly sway with the music and her own awful dance moves come out, he couldn’t help but smile and know he was safe.

Eventually, the dance floor was packed, causing them to squeeze in closer. Harry knew he had to watch what he did with her. Any other girl would be grinding against him and just outright begging to be touched, but Kennedy was a different puzzle. There would be no “feeling up” in the middle of the dance-floor. No tongue-filled make-out session before sneaking back to the hotel room.

He had to figure out the perfect pieces to put together to get her right where he wanted her. Kennedy had her back facing him, bobbing along to the music without a care. Harry let his eyes trail over the perfect fit of her dress, but he quickly shook his head and brought himself back to earth. He couldn’t get distracted. He needed to work his magic.

He lifted a hand and placed it on her waist, right above her hip, causing her to jump slightly. Although she seemed startled, she continued to dance, albeit a little more out-of-sync, which seemed to be from nerves.

Harry smirked just barely as he gave her time to get used to his hand resting there, and just as soon as she accepted it, he placed his other hand on the opposite hip, pulling them just a tiny bit closer to each other.

He tried not to overstep any boundaries. He knew that at any point, if she thought he was being a bit too “touchy-feely” she would put a stop to this whole thing and storm out.

But she didn’t. Not yet, at least. Her dancing slowed almost unnoticeably, but it was obvious she was getting flustered under his touch.

To Harry’s surprise, Kennedy turned around slowly, leaving his hands in place. Their eyes met, hers filled with a mix of confusion and excitement, his with just flat-out confusion.

Her hips began to sway under his hands as her dancing became a bit more fluid, inching closer and closer to his body. She was making a move, he realized. She was making a move.

Harry pulled her just barely, forcing her closer to him. Kennedy let out a small gasp and Harry smirked down at her. This was it.

Harry found himself involuntarily leaning down towards her. He seemed overeager, but he didn’t care. Kennedy was leaning up to meet him halfway, and he was about to kiss her. So no, he didn’t care one bit.

But he found himself kissing nothing but air when he expected lips. He opened one eye first, making sure that he was there with her, but soon was focusing both eyes on the girl pulling away. Her face was completely red and he knew that she was embarrassed. He just couldn’t understand why. She had made the move, after all.

“Sorry, can you excuse me for a second? I need to use the bathroom.”

She didn’t even give him the chance to respond as she quickly rushed through the crowd and disappeared somewhere in the club.

What the hell had just happened? He was sure he had done right. He had pulled her in. He was going to get his chance with her after all. So why did she pull away?

He made his way back towards the bar, surprised to find their same seats still empty, and sat down. He leaned his head against one hand and sighed loudly. Why was this bothering him so much? So the girl didn’t kiss him. So what? He’s had this happen before. So why was this specific girl making him feel bad about it?

He knew he would have to step up now. It was time to intensify his chase. He had to get her to want to leave with him. He could do it, right? He had to. He wasn’t leaving this place without the girl on his arm.

Kennedy…get ready. You haven’t seen anything yet.
