I Promise You

Ella couldn't help but feel nervous as four, five sets of eyes on her. Her petite frame was perched on her stool, long gone was the grey beanie she had worn into the studio at half eleven that morning, instead a pair of large, bulky earphones sat on top of her head, playing the rhythm that she needed to sing along too. Her hand was brought up slightly to play with the tips of her dyed, copper brown hair as she twirled the elbow length hair around her finger. Music flowed through the earphones as she smile that appeared on her face. She knew Vic had a beautiful voice and couldn't help but smile every time she heard it. The music slowed as she leant forward, Vic opposite her as he began to sing, his eyes shutting as his hands danced in the air. Hers moved down, resting on her thighs as he finished his final part.

Her lips, painted a cherry red, parted slightly as she began to sing, her eyelids sliding shut over her blue irises, her voice erupting from her as she sung the lyrics she had been memorizing for little over a week now. She could hear the music through her head phones, an instrumental part as she finished the end of her section, knowing that within seconds Vic would take over. Her mind wondered slightly as she waited for the music to finish, it wondered to her high school years. How she had moved from Northern Ireland to Sheffield with her father after the loss of her mother. She knew her reason for taking the offering Vic and the band had offered her, she would be in town for no more than two days before heading back to Ireland where she had set up a home. As the music came to a close, a voice echoed through her speakers. “You're done now, thank you Ella.” She smiled politely, stepping off the stool and removing her headphones, resting them on the stand in front of her.

After another ten minutes, she stepped outside the studio room, adjusting her beanie back on her head as she checked her phone to see a missed call from her partner back home – Aaron – sighing gently, she slid her phone back into the pockets of her jeans, heading down the corridor. Within moments, she hit the warm San Diego air, less than a minute later, she collided into a taller figure, instantly being knocked over. Pushing herself back up, a British accent apologized to her, before they looked up. “Ella?”

The accented voice echoed in her brain as her heart fluttered before melting. It was deeper than it had been all those years before, but she knew that voice. The voice had talked to her and kept her company during all those parties she'd attended as a college student where Matt would be doing who knows what who knows where. That voice laced with what she wished to be love was all she really wanted, even if she did date his best friend. She wasn't like him though, she stayed faithful. She steeled her reactions to one of just friendship and not the true emotions she had always hidden. A simple scan of his features nearly made her knees buckle, his once long brown hair was cut shorter, bangs sweeping across his forehead, his muddy brown eyes widened out in what appeared to be shock. A loose shirt sat on his upper body, whilst his jeans were ripped and torn like he used to wear.

“Oli is that you?” Her eyes squinted in the sunlight, playing the role of the friend she had always been and covered up the drumming of her heart. A smile spread across his face as he scratched the back of his neck, a nervous habit of his. She clasped her hands together, covering the smile she couldn't contain before deciding to throw her arms around his neck. “God it's good to see you.” She hoped the whisper against his cheek didn't give him away, his body pressed against hers sent flutters down her spine as he wrapped his arms around her loosely, taking a few seconds before gripping on tighter. Being close to him after all these years made her want to cry.

“What are you doing here?” He laughed, she couldn't admit she'd heard he was in town and decided to take the chance whilst she had it, “I was recording a new single with the Pierce The Veil boys. They offered me a section on their album and well yeah.” He pulled back slightly as his eyes shimmered, his lips close to hers as she wished he would lean forward and claim them.

“You're not staying for good then?” He breathed out into a sigh as she shook her head. Reminding herself that this was just Oli, the boy she had crushed on for years, the boy who would never make a move because of the stupid 'bros before hoes' code. She shook her head laughing as the smile became evident on his face, silence echoed around them as her hands slid down his tattooed arms. She wanted to confess everything to him, but she knew that she needed to get back to her hotel and pack before her plane left in the early hours of the morning.

“I best go. Flight to catch and everything.” She breathed, noticing the look of disappointment on his face as he nodded, removing his arms from her hold and thrusting them into his pockets. “Where are you living now? If it's near Sheffield-” He began only for her to cut him off with the shaking of her head. “I live back in Ireland, Alec got into some trouble..” She murmured, referring to her younger brother as he nodded, smiling at her. “It was good to see you.” He suggested, bringing her into another hug as she hugged him tightly once more, giving him a small squeeze. “I'll see you round, Oliver.” She laughed as his face scrunched up at the use of his full name. “You too, Ella.”
