“Please tell me this isn’t really happening.”
She looked at me with a defeated look. “I pleaded with them, asked them to wait until the babies were born but they said there was no point in arguing.”
“Why?”
“My dad got a job promotion.”
“When are you leaving to Pittsburgh?”
“Next week,” she mumbled unable to look at me.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Because I didn’t know how to tell you, and I was hoping they would change their minds.”
“My mom said that you could be there for the birth.”
“Pittsburgh is 8 hours away!”
“I’m sorry.”
I shook my head “sure you are.”
“You’re not the only one who’s losing something Pete.”
“I know,” I said and walked out her room.
