When Cadence is assigned the biggest crime case in the city, she is overwhelmed with the desire to prove herself. Having waited years and worked hard for such an opportunity, she is determined to make a name for herself with his case. All is looking up for her -- that is, until she meets her partner.

At twenty-five years of age, Matthias Barnes has never worked a murder case in his life, let alone a series of them. He's a private investigator, and spends his days stalking husbands whose wives think they are cheating. But when yet another girl shows up in an alleyway, this time, struggling for her life, he agrees to assist in the case.

Because the girl in the alleyway? She's the mayor's daughter. This case just got a whole lot uglier, and with a handful of deceit, corruption and crime, Cadence and Matthias must choose between what they know is right and doing their jobs.

But before that, they have to learn to get along.
