Save Us (and Rock and Roll)

You are My Phoenix

Put on your war paint

You are a brick tied to me that's dragging me down
Strike a match and I'll burn you to the ground
We are the jack-o-lanterns in July
Setting fire to the sky
He-here comes this rising tide
So come on

Put on your war paint

Cross walks and crossed hearts and hope-to-dies
Silver clouds with grey linings

So we can take the world back from the heart-attacked
One maniac at a time we will take it back
You know time crawls on when you're waiting for the song to start
So dance alone to the beat of your heart

Hey young blood
Doesn't it feel like our time is running out?
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix
You're wearing our vintage misery
No, I think it looked a little better on me
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix

Bring home the boys and scrap scrap metal the tanks
Get hitched and make a career out of robbing banks
Because the world is just a teller and we are wearing black masks
"You broke our spirit," says the note we pass

So we can take the world back from the heart-attacked
One maniac at a time we will take it back
You know time crawls on when you're waiting for the song to start
So dance alone to the beat of your heart

Hey young blood
Doesn't it feel like our time is running out?
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix
You're wearing our vintage misery
No, I think it looked a little better on me
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix

Put on your war paint

[4x:]
The war is won
Before it's begun
Release the doves
Surrender love

(Wave the white flag!)

"Come on! Get up! Fight me! How will you be strong without me?!" He slurred drunkenly. The smell of whiskey was like a cloud around him, choking everyone who dared to come near.

The fight is won, before it's even begun. He's a grown man and she's a little girl. It's not really a fair fight but that doesn't stop him. People have hurt him for all of his life and now is the time to retaliate. No one will hurt his beautiful daughter, not after how strong she is now.

"Get up! You are a phoenix, the fire will make you stronger!" He screams.

She's crying, her shoulders shake as she hides her bruised face with her hands. He kicks her again and she moans.

"You have to fight! Don't let me break your spirit! Get up!" No one will beat her, like they beat him.

He scowls as he remembers the devil, who wasn't an angel after all, and how she managed to steal everything he had. He will get his daughter to be better. He will change her, just like a remix and then he will raise her back to life. Out of pain, is strength truly forged.

The thought makes him smile. He is an artist and she is his masterpiece, his perfect remix. He used to think she was just a brick tied to him, that she was delaying him. He has grown wiser, and he knows that she's the exact opposite. She's his legacy.

She was a mistake, one flawed night with the devil who looked like an angel. He has on his war paint. She isn't just a grey cloud with a silver lining, she is a silver cloud with a grey lining. She's young blood. She can make up for his mistakes.

No one has caught the devil yet. The gorgeous devil that stole his job. He used to be a police man. Now he's a miserable father and it is her fault. She's a jack o lantern in July and she will burn the sky down, thanks to him. He has made her strong.

His time is running out, maybe they won't be able to catch the murderess, the catalyst, the one who created the troubles that chase him to this very day. It doesn't matter. Her strength is unmet.

Guess who finished NaNoWriMo one day early? This very tired, barely author person. More time to work on this, yay.
