Knocked Up

Chapter 13

Stretching out Jake tried to turn off his alarm as quickly as possible without disturbing the beautiful woman sleeping next to him glancing at the clock he let out a sigh as much as he really wanted to stay in bed with her he only had twenty minutes before he had to leave for Wells Fargo. Moving slowly and lightly as possible he could trying not to wake Kimmy he crept out of bed grabbing his suit and heading into his bathroom to change.

Merely hours ago the woman in his bed had told him something he’d wanted to hear for months she was moving to the Philadelphia area near him, he would get to see her whenever he was in Philadelphia because that was where she would be living. So he couldn’t help but wonder why he wasn’t happy about that. She was moving in with him for at least her first month down her and he hoped like hell he could persuade her to stay after that first month but that wasn’t what was nagging at him.

She said it herself hours ago, nineteen years of education working to become an Engineer to get the job she already had the job she was giving up to move to Philadelphia a move she wouldn’t have to make if it wasn’t for him. But then there was the part that was confusing him most Kimmy was adamant this was what she wanted, that giving up her job to go back to school in Philadelphia. He knew there was one person that could either confirm or deny her story that to study at UPenn was a dream to achieve her doctorate in materials science. Which he found strange since she’d never mentioned it, they sat and talked about all their hopes and dreams for the future and not once had she mentioned studying her doctorate in Philadelphia. So he couldn’t push the thought she was settling for him because he couldn’t move and she could.

Shrugging on his suit jacket he left the bathroom and was glad to see Kimmy was still curled up sleeping in his bed, crouching down next to the bed he brushed her hair from her face running his fingers over cheek she looked so peaceful, so beautiful as he pressed a kiss to the side of her head before getting up and heading downstairs. His parents where in the living room his Dad watching one of the earlier hockey matches whilst his mom was sat reading. “Has Wayne come down yet?” He asked his parents as he sat down next to his mom.

“He is in the kitchen waiting for you.” His mom told him, “What time would you like us to arrive?”

“Half six should be fine, my suite is empty so I was going to put you in their unless you want me to see if there are any seats free I am pretty sure Kimmy and Lianna have seats from Claude but if you take the suit I am sure they will join you.” Now, he was sure they would join now this morning though he’d been sure his parents would be in the suite and Kimmy and Lianna sat as far as possible on the opposite side of the arena to be away from his mom. But since Kimmy’s outburst rant his mom really did seem to have got better, Kimmy’s words about forcing him to choose really seemed to have hit his mom hard.

“The suite is fine darling.”

“I’ve left Kimmy in bed sleeping if she doesn’t wake up for the match let her sleep she’ll be mad but she needs to catch up on her sleep.” He told his mom who just nodded it was pretty obvious to see how tired Kimmy was, she’d been out the minute her head had hit the pillow or his chest as that was what she had been using as a pillow.

“Okay… will we see you before the match?” It was something he’d been doing for years if his parents where in a suite not a seat he would try and get up to the suite before a match it calmed him seeing them gave him a few minutes to himself and they liked it too so.

“I’ll try and come up but can’t promise anything.”

“Good luck now then son.” Whilst his Dad spoke his mom reached for him hand as he saw Wayne move into the living room door.

“Love you.” He smiled lifting his mom’s hand and placing a kiss on top of it before getting up and heading for the door.

“If I don’t see you after the flight have a safe flight, it was great to see you again and mama V thank you for the food.” Wayne smiled at both his parents as they head for the door Jake couldn’t help but smile as Wayne thanked his mom for the food knowing his mom would have filled the freezer with their favorite foods.

“It was lovely to see you too Wayne and enjoy the food.” His mom gave Wayne a hug whilst his Dad just waved at his house mate before they left and began heading for the Wells Fargo.
As usual the only sound in the car the whole journey was his iPod playing their traditional pump up songs to get the adrenaline flowing.

Taking his pasta Jake sat next to Claude who was tapping away on his phone, “Let me guess you want to ask me if Kimmy is making this move for you or because she wants to go to UPenn?” He hadn’t even been aware Claude knew he was sitting down but his as his captain spoke putting down his phone to look at him he realized Claude was more clued in than he thought. Likely the person he was texting was Kimmy.

“She wants you to convince me this is what she wants?”

“Yeah… because it is Jake she made that application in August in my kitchen in Ottawa a week before you arrived. She didn’t know any of this was going to happen, but she saw a chance to move to a city that she likes she had Lianna and I here and UPenn is an Ivy league school that’s impressive and the doctorate they where offering was research in a similar area to what she did her Masters on and it was paid it was a win win situation for her so she applied. Now it is just a win win win situation she gets to do something she loves, get paid for it, become higher qualified, move to a city she’s always wanted to live in and be near her baby daddy. Don’t stress that she’s doing something she doesn’t want to for you – Kimmy wanted this be happy for her it’s a big achievement that she wanted.”

“So why didn’t she tell me about it?” That was what he didn’t understand if this was so important to her if she really wanted to do this to move to Philly and study at UPenn why did she not tell him. He could have helped her, he wasn’t sure how he could have helped but he would have found away.

“She didn’t want you to get your hopes up she didn’t think it would be fair.” That did sound so much like Kimmy thinking of others not wanting to build hope for other, under everything that’s who she was – she cared about her friends and family so deeply so completely she wouldn’t let anything hurt them. “You know Kimmy; you know very few things can force Kimmy to do something she doesn’t want to do. But I will warn you UPenn has a Canoe Polo team please don’t have a heart attack when she announces she is training with them she won’t risk bean but let her have some fun and get back on the water she will love you for it.” Jake prayed to god Claude was joking with him that Kimmy wouldn’t really want to go back to playing Canoe Polo whilst she was pregnant he didn’t have an issue with her getting back into training and competing once bean was born hell he would help her out if that was what she wanted to do. But not whilst she was pregnant it was violent and dangerous surely she wouldn’t want to.

Prior to warm ups he’d got a text from his mom to say they were in the suit if he got chance so leaving his skates off he headed up stairs quickly to see everyone. Kimmy was already sat in the arena with Lianna when he got up their but his mom and dad were in the suite his dad with a beer his mom making two cups of tea he couldn’t but smile when he saw the box of tea bags she had clearly Kimmy’s.

“Kimberly, Jakub is here and your tea is ready.” His mom called to her and she got up with Lianna and walked in to the suite. He really needed to work on getting his mom to at least call her Kim, hearing her been called Kimberly was just two strange almost as weird as her housemates calling her Krantz.

“Hey sleepy head.” Catching Kimmy’s yawn which as he spoke instantly turned to a frown.

“Don’t you hey sleep head me, I would have missed this match if you had your way I am not happy with you.” She snapped at him taking the cup of tea, “You are not the only reason I come to these games when I am here so you don’t get to make that call.”

“I am sorry what can I do to make it up to you.”

“Win at least and a goal or an assist wouldn’t go down a miss.” Hugging her he let out a small laugh before placing a kiss on the top of her head.

“I’ll see what I can do.” He told her before hugging both his parents accepting both of their wishes of good luck before flying off back down to the locker room to get his skates on and head out for warm ups.

Not only did the Flyers manage the win Kimmy had asked for, he managed a goal and an assist putting him the lead of the NHL point scoring leader board which was a surreal sightseeing his name up there but that meant every network, paper and website wanted to talk to him. His parents had a flight to catch at five in the morning and it was starting to look like he wouldn’t be making it out of the arena until midnight. They had wanted to wait for him and go and get food before dinner the three of them he wasn’t coming home for Christmas this year the plan had been to spend the two days up in Buffalo now they’ been used to move Kimmy from Buffalo to Philadelphia.

Sending them a quick text, to let them know he’ be a while and they should go home he slipped his phone back in his jacket pocket and went back to answering questions. Feeling his phone vibrate he waited until this group was gone before he checked his phone he had two texts one from Kimmy and one from his mom. Kimmy’s was brief ‘your forgiven superstar see you in the morning Daddy x’ whilst his moms told him that she and his father would wait up for him at home she’d cook him and Wayne something, to celebrate them both having such strong nights.
