Brand New Soul

You Know I'm Never Gonna Let You Go

“Kell? Baby, where are you?” I heard Vic call. “In our room,” I called back. I was lying on our bed, scrolling through my phone lazily……I was waiting for him to get back.
“Hi,” I said and smiled at him. He gave me a tiny smile back and then moved to sit down on the edge of the bed. “What’s wrong?” I asked and set my phone on the sheets before sliding closer to him.
He slid back on the bed and then pulled me into his lap, smiling as I immediately shifted to straddle him. “I was talking to my mom about having a baby,” he started slowly.
I nodded for him to continue, curious as to why he looked so worried. “I—I don’t know if we should anymore,” I frowned, the confusion evident on my face. “Why not?” I asked. “I mean—I want to, but she said that for you to get pregnant, it would be extremely painful.”
I chewed on my bottom lip, thinking over his words. “Why? What do I have to do?” I couldn’t figure out why conceiving a baby would be so difficult, even if I wasn’t a girl.
“Kellin, you would have to grow a new reproductive system.” I shrugged, earning a little frown from him. “Wait, I would have, like…girl parts?” I asked, blushing.
Vic laughed and shook his head. “Not exactly. You’d still have to have a cesarean, but your body would have to create a place for the baby to grow,” he explained and then sighed as he saw how confused I looked.
“You’d have to grow a womb, and it would adapt itself inside your body so that you could conceive,” I nodded slowly. “So…sex would still be the same?” I questioned. “Yes, but you’re missing the point. All of your internal organs would have to be rearranged to accommodate it and the pain is excruciating. I don’t want to put you through that,”
We sat in silence for a minute, both of us thinking. I knew he’d hate my answer, but I still wanted to. I would only have to go through this once, and then I could have kids whenever. “You still want to,” Vic said quietly. “And you don’t?” He shook his head, taking a hold of my waist with both of his hands.
“I do. I just don’t want you to have to go through that. I mean—if you were still a human, the pain would kill you,” he said. I cringed.
“What about after? We could still have more kids eventually, right?”
Vic nodded. “If you wanted to. The spell is reversible, but you don’t have to, so it’s possible. Reversing it would be just as painful anyways,” he explained.
“Is there anything else?” I asked, “other than sex,” Vic laughed and nodded; of course there was more. Nothing was ever simple for us.
“There’s another spell; so that you can physically conceive a baby. You won’t have a period, so we’ll have to use magic to make an egg,”
I wrinkled my nose, Vic smiling at me. “Ew, eggs,” he teased and pulled me back against the bed with him. I laughed and caught his hands, holding myself up against them.
“How am I supposed to have a c-section? I can’t exactly go to a hospital,” I said. “There are demons that specialize in births. Demons do live forever, so there are quite a few babies born all the time,” Vic said back.
“Okay…. I hope it looks like you,” Vic made a face at me. “Why?” he asked, actually looking confused. “Because you’re gorgeous,” I replied.
“So are you. I mean—hopefully the baby would look like both of us. With your eyes,” I wrinkled my nose again. “Why my eyes? They’re so bland,” I complained. I would much rather our baby have his pretty, chocolate eyes than mine.
“You have a terrible self image, you know that?” I shrugged slightly. I just liked him better. “What am I going to do with you?” he asked exasperatedly. I grinned at him cheekily. “Impregnate me?” He made a face, his mouth falling open incredulously. “Oh my god, Kellin,” I giggled and leant down to kiss him, smiling against his lips.
“When?” I asked him. “So eager,” I pouted and let go of his hands to rest them on his chest.
“Please?” I pleaded, still making puppy eyes at him. “Ugh, fine. Whenever you want, although I don’t understand why you’re so eager to torture yourself,”
I just grinned at him. Hopefully the pain wouldn’t be as bad as Vic made it sound; he had a tendency to exaggerate.
“Well…” Vic groaned. “We are not doing it today,” he said. “Give yourself a little time to prepare,” I pouted again, Vic immediately shaking his head. “Uh-uh, no more sad eyes. You already got your way,” he scolded.
I frowned and sighed before giving in; Vic really had spoiled me rotten. “Okay, I’ll wait,” I said, earning a little kiss.
“Tomorrow it is then,” ~

I poked Vic’s side, giggling at the look he gave me. “What was that for?” I shrugged and grinned at him. “I don’t know,”
I saw his eyes roll before looking back down at the book in his lap. “What is that?” I asked.
“A book,” I glared and poked him again, smirking as he flinched. “Stop that. It’s a spell book I had lying around. And before you ask me why I’m looking though it; I wanted to see if there was a way to make it more bearable for you. By the way, there isn’t.” I frowned and glanced at it.
“It’s in Latin,” he explained. I nodded a little, kind of intrigued. “You can read Latin?” He nodded and closed the book before setting it on the table.
“Most demons can,” I frowned again. “Don’t be sad. It’s not some demon ability that you don’t have. My parents taught me. But because you were a human, you were never taught to read a dead language.” I loved that he immediately tried to make me feel better, although I still felt kind of left out.
He caught my chin, forcing me to look at him.
“You’re not missing anything love. The only time it’s ever used is for reading spells,” I nodded silently. I was still kind of bummed. “Will you teach our baby?” I asked. Vic looked kind of surprised at that. “Um, I could,” he said. “Did you want me to?” I nodded and leant against him.
“Well, the baby will be a normal demon, right? So you should keep the tradition,” Vic smiled at me softly. “I could teach you too,” he offered sweetly. I shook my head, content to just know English.
“Do you speak any other languages I don’t know about?” Vic bit his lip cautiously and nodded. “Seriously? What?”
He looked skeptical, but listed them anyways. “Spanish, German, Mandarin, French, Swedish, Italian, and a little Greek,” he said. “Oh my God, Vic. How do you know all of those?” I asked incredulously as he shrugged.
“I’ve been around a while,” he admitted. “My parents taught me Latin, Greek, and Spanish, and I learned the rest traveling the world,” I smiled at him, very impressed.
“Can you say something in Spanish for me?” I asked. I didn’t know why I picked that one. Maybe because I flunked it in school….
“Like what?” he asked. I shrugged lightly. “Um…Tu eres la luz de mi vida,” he said fluently. I smiled, liking the way the words rolled off his tongue.
“What does that mean?” I asked. Vic smiled and met my eyes as he spoke. “You are the light of my life,”
I melted and pressed my lips to his. “You’re so sweet,” I said softly. “Don’t tell anyone,” I smiled.
“Any requests?” he asked, grinning back at me. I smirked and nodded. “Can we go now?” Vic groaned and rolled his head back against the couch.
“Yes, sweetheart, we can go now,” I grinned triumphantly and kissed him again as we disappeared. ~
