Wicked Lips

I wouldn’t describe myself as the perfect man, but to many of the upper class citizens I now represented the holy grail of wealth and power, not that I minded, a little reverence never hurts. Things hadn’t always been this way as it is. There was a time when I was an average college kid seeking nothing but a good time. Things had changed; Now, I was a graduate and gaining a vast foothold in the political world and in the years that had passed my father’s enterprise had gained us the title of billionaires. But not everything has changed, old habits die hard and I still only wanted a good time, just with more of a high quality taste.

“Daylen Trevellon, well, well, if someone would have told me you would be competing to take up the mantle of responsibility as Mayor of Silvercrest City a year ago I might have laughed them out of the office.” Mayor Gaspard, a most undelightful and pompous man, one I will choose to ignore once the campaign is over for sure, he’d sell his mother if he thought he’d gain from it. “Ah Gaspard, what an unexpected pleasure, I agree with you, I’d be the first to quash such thoughts, but things change, we’re here aren’t we?”

“Indeed, though not all things change I see, still as womanizing as ever? That won’t look good.” His gluttonish grin made my fist itch to connect with his face in a most irritating way.
“Still as tactful as ever in your social maneuvers I see, maybe that’s why you were ‘quietly asked to resign,’ but what would I know of such things hmm?” The look of utter disdain on his face gave me all the reaction I needed. I couldn’t help but snicker to myself, the game was tough, the public will tear you apart, but it’s your friends you have to watch, the ones that have tongues as virtuous as saints but will stab you in the back the moment they have something to gain. This celebration only proved the existence of such things. Tonight was about my campaign, unveiling the new ‘solution’ to Silvercrest’s growing crime. All hot air of course, the only thing that could cure this city’s problems would be to start from scratch.

No, the real reason for my political suit was to gain my father yet another pawn in his game of the city. Not that I minded, all the wine I could drink, all the women I could want and any funds I required. Many would call me selfish, they’d probably be right, but I simply enjoy the pleasures life offers, and if it’s on a silver platter, then so be it. A few prepped speeches here and there, some ribbon cuttings and a whole lot of charm can get you further than you think. Also a legion of rich people who want to stay that way, on your side helps a little too.

“Daylen!” I glanced across the room to see who called, ah Hunter. My best and oldest friend, we got into so much shit together. “Hey, how’s the drinks? What are you doing here by the way, I thought you left to go travel Europe with some Swedish hooker my friend?!”
“Ah still the same old Daylen, right brother? Good to know, I hoped you wouldn’t change, everyone else has become so boring these days.”
“Why would I change, people think I’m charming.” I said with a smug grin.
“People also think you’re a pain in the arse.” He chuckled.
“All the more reason not to change.”
“Indeed, but no, things have changed for me, I’m dating the sexiest pre-med grad gal, I know you never picked me as the type to settle down, but ah, with her, I’m seriously considering it man.”
“Well, well, who will I go out to the strip club with now that Hunter has a collar and leash hmm?” I snickered, he was right, I would never have picked it.
“Hey, hey, meet her before you judge me yeah?”

I nodded as he led me to the other side of the decadent courtyard. The air was thick with the sounds of idle chatter, while the aroma of fanciful foods wafted through the air, all a charade. The false friendliness clung to the air and though unspoken the tension in the room could be cut with a knife, these people wouldn't hesitate to stab each other in the back if it came down to it, and neither would I, all part of the game. We brushed past many, til finally he stopped. I drew a deep breath as I lay eyes upon a creature whom I’d known before, but last time we met, it was only sheets between us, not my best friend.

“This is Joslin,” He stated before grasping her hand and staring into her eyes with a look I could only describe as sickening ‘love’.
I clasped my hands nervously, and smiled “Nice to meet you Joslin.” I stared into those honeyed eyes, and I knew she knew. Problem was she couldn't let bygones be bygones could she?
“Well, well if it isn't poker face, how are you Daylen? Doing better than last time we met I see?” I cringed and she knew it, part of me deserved it, but I wasn't going to let her get away with that.
“Last time we met, you seemed in awe of me, so I gather not much has changed for you?” She simply stared me down with a look of distaste spreading across her face; she looked even cuter when she was mad.
“So you say.”
Hunter turned to me; I could tell he was not impressed, “Really Daylen? Is there a woman in this goddamn city that hasn't fucked you?” Abrupt, but a fair question.
“I don’t know, you’ll have to ask them.” This only inflamed things obviously but I couldn't resist, I knew he’d be over in within a few days, he had already said he would marry several girls and then left them when the next came along, clearly this would be no different. We were similar, but I, not so cruel, I wouldn't lead a girl to believe such a thing, would I? Hunter stormed off leaving an embarrassed Joslin behind.
“You couldn't fucking resist , could you?!” She cursed.

“You brought it up, I was willing to let sleeping dogs lie, but nope you wanted to wake them.”
“I’m finally with someone who makes me happy Daylen, don’t mess this up for me. You had your chance, if I’d waited for you, I’d still be sitting by my phone.” True words. Yet I couldn’t help but feel like it was a challenge.
“I’m here now aren’t I?” I grasped her hand and gently kissed it, “Sorry I made you wait.” I winked.
She hesitantly pulled it away “No... It’s too late, don’t be stupid, I've been with Hunter for a few months now, and I’m not that sort of girl.”
“I hate to break it to you, but he’s not that type of guy ,despite what he says, I taught him everything he knows my dear,”
“Pssh, that sounds exactly like something you’d say! Of course!” She was getting tempered now, and as much as I loved making a scene, now wasn’t the time.
I slunk behind her to leave before slinding my hands across her waist, she gasped in surprise, I brought my lips to her ear whispering in hot breaths “Do let me know if you change your mind.” I purred. I knew she would, they always do.
