I'm the Last One That You'll Ever Remember

Chapter 54: Walking Temptation

The very next day, Gerard had just got the twins bathed and dressed when he heard the front door open and loudly close, on purpose, from downstairs. A smile quickly spread across his lips at the knowledge of their Frank signaling his arrival. Adding some last touches to Venetia hair’s, Gerard quickly hustled the twins into his arms and carried them both downstairs, ignoring their wandering hands pulling and tugging at the ends of his black hair. Gerard hissed in pain and in response would send them each a playful ‘grr’ face that made them giggle. “Calm the hell down you two. My fix has finally arrived and goddamnit you’re not the only ones that’s been dying to see him, so get right in fucking line behind me.”

The trio discovered Frank in the kitchen putting a few items he had picked up from the store on his way over into the cupboards. He looked up when he saw his children and grinned the biggest grin Poison had ever seen. “Hey there, my loves! Did you guys miss me?”

Simultaneously, Venetia and Lorenzo reached out a tiny chubby hand in his direction, making him laugh with joy. Gerard couldn’t help but smile at seeing Frank so happy. It was an emotion that he wasn’t used to seeing him in and warmed his own little cold black heart. “Yeah, they missed you like crazy. How was your morning?”

Frank shrugged as he walked over to give Venetia a kiss on the cheek before taking Lorenzo out of Gerard’s arms. “It was okay, I guess. My boss gave me the morning off so I can work the night shift for Jane so she could take her grandmother to her doctor appointment later on in the afternoon.” He smiled as his son’s hands roamed over his face, and pressed a kiss to the palms whenever they landed over his mouth. “But never mind about me. How was your morning? Were they a handful to get ready?”

Gerard thought back to the morning’s events. In the beginning he had dreaded babysitting Frank’s niece and nephew in order to get closer to him, because he didn’t like kids in the slightest bit. The whole selfishness, the crying, the pooping, the crying, the screaming and the crying! It literally pained him mentally when he thought about what was to come being a babysitter, but on his first day he found the job to be a breeze. Yes, he did wake up to the twins screaming and crying through the baby monitor for him, but that oddly didn’t infuriate him. He got up, and got them ready for the day without any irritation on his part. A smile broke across his face at the thought of his little brother Mikey finding out that he had gone undercover as a babysitter and hadn’t yet tossed either of the kids out of the window. Gerard moved his hair out of the way of Venetia’s tiny hands as she garbled at him. “Nah, they weren’t too bad. I think we’re already developing an understanding relationship with each other.”

Frank smiled in relief. “Thank god, I was worried they’d drive you crazy on your first day!” He turned around to gesture to the grocery bags with one hand. “Have they eaten any breakfast yet? I dropped by the store before I got here to pick up a few things just in case you might be running low. Lorenzo can be a hungry hippo sometimes. He’s inherited the Iero’s Appetite, as my mommy calls it.”

Gerard laughed at his comment, and shook his head in response as his eyes wandered over Frank’s features. “No, not yet. I was on my way to it before you arrived. Here let me put this little princess down in her seat and we can get started on breakfast.”

Frank nodded. “Sure, but let me put the food away first. Don’t want it to go bad or anything.”

“No, let me. I’m sure you’ll want to spend time with the little ones. I’ll be done in no time.” Gerard said, as he secured Venetia in her high chair and got started on putting the food away. In seconds, he was indeed done and the two of them were sitting at the table putting tiny spoonfuls of baby food in Lorenzo and Venetia’s mouths. From the corner of Gerard’s eyes he would watch Frank’s movements and listened to the sound of him cooing to Lorenzo, encouraging him and congratulating him every time he ate his food without spitting it out or making a mess. Gerard had missed the sound of his voice, his scent, and seeing his physical presence in his old room in the abandoned house in the woods. He didn’t get to have that anymore ever since he had given him up.

“You’re good with them.” Frank softly told him, making him jump back into the present.

Confused, Gerard glanced at Frank with a raised eyebrow. “I’m sorry?”

Frank giggled and gestured to him and Venetia. “I said you’re good with them. I can tell just by looking in their eyes and studying their behavior, they seem pretty happy after only a few hours with you. They’re usually scared around new people.”

Gerard looked down at Venetia to see her pointing a tiny finger up at him while flashing a grin full of baby food. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the little girl and her silly smile. “I guess. Like I said before we’re working on an understanding relationship.”

“And we’re grateful for that. Also, I’m very grateful for you coming to watch my…” Frank hesitated, his smile faltering as his brow furrowed in sadness before he snapped back to his happy self. “…niece and nephew, on such short notice. I hope my Uncle and Aunt didn’t trouble you by having you racing over here before. Do you live far away, like in the city or something?”

A flash of the abandon lake house the Killjoy’s family were now occupying in the opposite forest, and the foreclosed house he was secretly staying in a housing community nearby. “Uh, not really. I live…around.”

Frank slowly nodded, deciding to drop the subject because of how withdrawn Gerard had seemed from his probing question. “Oh, well that makes me feel less guilty then I guess.”

Pulling himself back out of his thoughts, Gerard fed Venetia a spoonful of her baby food, quickly scooping up the rest that slid back out from the corner of her mouth. “So, where do you live?”

“I live with my mom and dad in the housing development in the back, the one with the huge gate.” Frank shared as he tickled Lorenzo for not making a spill.

Gerard frowned as he recalled driving by such an area that looked quite majestic in comparison to his own. “Isn’t that where the rich folks live?”

Frank blushed in embarrassment. “Uh...y-yeah.”

Gerard sent him a mischievous grin. “Oh, so you’re the son of a rich family huh?” His eyes quickly roamed over Frank’s apparel. “Please don’t take any offence to this but…you don’t dress like a rich kid.”

Frank sighed as he fed the last spoonful of Lorenzo’s baby food to his son and placed the tiny jar and utensil down onto the table away from the children’s reach. “Yeah, I know. I don’t really care about looking all fancy to be honest. My taste in style isn’t really all that expensive, though I can’t say the same for my parents.”

“What do your parents do for a living, if you don’t mind me asking?” Gerard asked him as he wiped Venetia’s mouth with her bib.

Frank shook his head. “No, I don’t mind at all. My daddy is actually a doctor that’s highly sought after by celebrities and those kinds of people when they catch the tiniest sniffles. My mother, on the other hand, is a pretty popular lawyer, she’s actually on the TV a lot, but that’s nothing new to see.” He broke into a beautiful soft laugh that was matched with a gorgeous smile.

Gerard couldn’t help but laugh too, finding his irresistible. “What? What’s so funny?”

Frank gave him a small shrug. “It’s nothing really, I just…I remember a few times when I was younger and my mother would go out of town to work on big court cases, sometimes airing on TV. I would miss her like crazy then. When daddy couldn’t console me, he’d turn the TV on to the new in hopes she’d be seen in court working on a case. He would let me watch her but would always mute the volume so I wouldn’t get nightmares from all the gory details. I’d always end up feeling better after seeing her.”

Gerard strangely found that unbelievably adorable. It wasn’t just that story that he found adorable, he found everything about Frank adorable, among other things. Never in a million years would Gerard have pictured himself sitting in the kitchen conversating with another human being that he wasn’t intending to murder. He could only ever stand his little brother growing up, anyone else would quickly get his temper rising. Yet here he was, with his walking addiction, talking. His addiction. His fix. His unbreakable obsession was not even an arm’s length away from him and surprisingly still had his clothes on? Gerard was pretty damn impressed with himself. He’s been around Frank and yet to try and rip Frank’s clothes off. He deserved a medal for that alone! The boy was a walking temptation, and Gerard knew that the minute Frank walked out that door to return home he was gonna have relieve the pent up sexual frustration he caused within him every time he was around. The longer Frank stayed around, the more difficult it was going to be to get through the night, but Gerard wouldn’t dare ever ask him to leave for his sake. No, he was too selfish.

“It’s probably weird that I still call my parents mommy and daddy huh? I mean, I’m 16 year olds! What 16 year old still call his parents mommy and daddy?” Frank whined in embarrassment, covering his smiling red face, muffling the awkward laugh that spilled from his lips.

Gerard gave him a soft forgiving smile as his dazed eyes remained glued to Frank’s face. “I don’t find it weird at all. In fact, I think it’s cute.”

Frank dropped his hands away from his face and looked at Gerard in surprise before the look in his light brown eyes made his cheeks flush even redder. “C-cute?”

Gerard boldly nodded with a smirk, not once breaking his gaze and making sure to hold Frank’s hazel orbs to his too. “Oh yeah.”

Frank looked away, completely flattered and gave a light shrug. “Well, I…I suppose cute is okay.”
