Enemies of Comfort

Enemies of Comfort

The smell of fresh coffee wafted through the air, seeming to calm anyone that entered.

Even werewolves, such as myself, could find it easy to relax.

A place of neutrality.

A place void of the war between creatures.

Apparently, even a place where the slimiest scum dare to tread.

“May I have a medium coffee please? Black.”

He’s awfully attractive for an angel.

“Your name?”

“Uh, why do you need my name?”

He’s nervous.

Though I can’t say I blame him.

Every creature lurking in this little shop was eyeing him, anxiously awaiting an attack.

With the stealth of the mighty wolf inside me, I snuck out into the crowded streets.

If there was to be a fight, I would have nothing to do with it.

My senses went on high alert.

He’s behind me.

Only a few feet away.

Of all the creatures to choose, he chose me.

The library stood on the corner, sending out a beckoning call.

The little birdie continued to follow, nipping at my heels.

Turning, I grabbed his shirt, slamming him into the wall.

“What do you want, angel?”

His defenses went up as I bared my teeth, my eyes glowing the telltale yellow.

“Listen, I know angels and werewolves are supposed to execute each other and what not, but I’m not into that.

I’m just trying to live a semi normal life. I just want to go to the library. I am not up to anything, I promise.”

Angels can’t lie, but I find what he says to be far from the truth.

Reluctantly I released him, retracting my animal features.

“Ah man, I dropped my coffee.” Very gingerly he pushed up his glasses and stuck out his hand. “I’m Jareth.”

Scowling, I walked past him into the library.

“I don’t associate myself with angels.”

The stout woman at the front desk smiled.

“Good morning Savannah.”

“Morning Jess.”

“So your name is Savannah. Pretty.”

“Why are you following me?”

“I just moved here, I’m looking to make some friends.”

My eyes rolled to the heavens at his insinuation.

Wishing to get as far from the feathered being as possible, I jumped on top of a bookshelf.

“Savannah! Stop jumping on things!”

“Sorry, I’m just trying to get away from a pest.”

Suddenly the one known as Jareth appeared before me.

I forgot they could transport themselves.

Stupid.

I would lose this fight instantly.

“I’m just trying to make a friend, if you don’t want to talk just let me know.”

Have I not been obvious enough?

“If you do not leave me alone, I will rip your filthy little wings off and shove them down your fucking throat.”

Once again my fangs bared, the hair on the back of my neck standing on end.

Though to say the angel was my only disturbance at the moment would be a lie.

“Is this angel bothering you, Savannah?”

“Not anymore than you are Daniel. Why are you here?”

The wolf stepped out of the darkness, a cocky smile on his face.

“We never got the chance to finish our last fight, and I knew you’d come to this worthless place.

Tell me, did your back heal alright?”

A growl erupted from my throat.

I don’t want to fight here.

Not in my sanctuary.

Reluctantly I took a step back, trying to get away.

Daniel was quick to react, claws bared as he aimed for my stomach.

I winced as an arm wrapped around me.

“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t stand there and watch as you were getting ready to ruin that library.

Those places are my only sanctuary.”

He used his transportation.

The damn angel just transported me.

“I-”

And then he vanished, leaving me by myself in the middle of the lions den.

_

“I smell a wolf.”

“Find her and kill her.”

Shit!

Did he do this on purpose?

He had to.

The angel really can lie.

“This way!”

What am I going to do?

I can’t fight the entire pack by myself.

I’m dead.

Again a threatening growl rumbled the earth.

“Jareth!”

“You called?”

With all of my heightened senses, he still found a way to shock me.

“You son of a bitch-”

“I’m not a dog, no matter how much I may look it.”

“This is no time for your self pity. We’re on werecat property! They’re going to shred us.”

“And an angel.”

“We shall show these imbeciles whose property they trespass.

They shall be an example of what will happen to any other if they share the foolish intent.”

“Nonsense, I’m sure we can talk them out of it.”

“They do not converse angel, they kill.”

“Over here!”

Quickly the pack circled us, leaving no room for escape.

“Who do you think you are mut? To step foot onto our land with your little feathered toy.

Your roaming has cost you your life!”

For the second time in just twenty minutes someone leapt at me, claws bared.

“Whoa!” Jareth pulled me into his body, his chin brushing the top of my head.

My stomach churned for two reasons: the after affect of transportation, but also, the closeness of the holy creature.

“You know,” My face tilted up due to a pressuring of a finger. “you’re awfully pretty, even if you are a punk chick.”

I bit for his finger, only catching air.

“Remember,” He smiled, walking away. “I saved your life twice. That means we’re friends now.”

“You put my life in danger, you can’t claim to have saved me.”

He only chuckled, walking inside of the building.

“Friends with an angel? Your family would disown you if they ever found out.”

“Daniel, don’t. I’m not in the mood.”

Cupping my face he leaned in.

“Tell me, what are you in the mood for?”

With a smirk I moved closer, placing my lips on his.
