Slip Into The Tragedy.
Chapter Three
Fast Forward to the 3rd grade
“Lexaaaaaa!” Frank yelled from across the classroom, his beaming smile evident even from across the room.
I raised my eyebrows at him as he bounded across the room to me. This was the first day of 3rd grade. Mikey and me got the same class this morning and apparently so does Frank. Mikey grinned from beside me as we watched our best friendrunning skipping towards us.
“I miss youuu,” He yelled in my ear, as he took me into one of his bone-crushing hugs.
“Yea, I miss you to Frank. But is there anyway you can hug me without attempting to choke me to death?” I said, gasping out air as soon as he released me.
“Nope!” He replied cheekily.
“So Iero, you didn’t miss me now did you?” Mikey asked, pouting.
“Of course I did Mikes!” Frank yelped and hugged him in his bone-crushing hugs too. That made Mikey actually have to cough to breathe. I giggled beside them.
“You think this is funny do you?” Mikey asked, spluttering and pushing his glasses up his nose as soon as Frank released him.
“Yeeess” I said smiling widely.
“Class, now would you please sit down!” A voice from in front of the classroom bellowed out. We all fell silent. No one wants to upset Mr. Laurence at the first day of school.
“Thank you,” He said more quietly now. “We have a new student in our class today.”
Almost immediately the whole class buzzed with conversation again. Everyone wondering who the new kid was.
Then, Mr. Laurence opened the door to what I assumed to be the new kid. He has jet-black hair and bright green eyes that were scanning the room nervously. It kind of reminded me of my first day.
“This is Axel Calhoun, and he’ll be your new class mate.” Mr. Laurence said, gesturing to the new boy. He smiled nervously and waved. He looks kind of cute. Many of the girls in the class were smiling at him, I rolled my eyes at them, and at this age they are already thinking of having a boyfriend.
I saw one of them, Claire, flashed her perfectly even, pearly white teeth at him, and batting her eyelashes. I looked at her disgustedly, at this age she already wears a ton of make up. She flipped her long blonde hair and batted her eyelashes once more. Some guys in front of me are already staring at her. I don’t get it, what do they see in her?
“Now it looks like Axel is going to need a buddy to help him at school. Now who should keep him company?” Mr. Laurence announced to the class. Almost every girl in class raises their hands, almost being every girl except me. Not like I don’t like him or anything, its just that I don’t want to show him around school at break and lunch time where I could be spending time with myfriends friend, a.k.a Frank.
Mr. Laurence frowned at me, obviously thinking that I was being rude. Frank however sat beside me grinning like an idiot, glancing at me with a mischievous look on his face.
“What are you—“ I began to ask
“Mr. Laurence, why don’t Lexa— I mean Alexa show him around?” Frank said loudly, getting frowns from the girls in our class. They obviously really likes this new kid.
“What?!” I said, whipping around to face him
“That’s an excellent idea Mr. Iero.” Mr. Laurence said, smiling. He absolutely loves to torture me. “Mr. Calhoun, you can sit beside Ms. Way back there.”
The boy trudged over to the desk next to mine and sat down. He smiled at me and I smiled back, but then glared at Frank.
“I’m Axel” He said
“I’m Alex” I said back.
Then suddenly burst out laughing. He looks confused.
“What are you laughing at?” He asked
“Our names are the same letters but jumbled together” I giggled
“Oh” He said, smiling at my random comment. “I think we’re gonna get along just fine Alex”
“I think so too, Axel” I beamed back at him.
Unknown to both of us, a pair of piercing hazel eyes are already staring at us in insane jealousy, and those pair of eyes belong to a boy.
_______________________________________________________________________
In a space of a couple of weeks, Axel and I had been getting closer and closer, but surprisingly I find it very hard to find time to hang out with Frank anymore. I hardly see him in class. Even if we talk sometimes in the hallway, he would just nod occasionally and answer in one syllable words. He kept shooting Axel dirty looks behind my back, and now – so I have heard – he hates Axel with a passion. I don’t understand, Axel had been perfectly nice to him, and all Frank has been doing is just ignoring Axel the whole time. Now I even think that Frank hates me too. I honestly didn’t do anything wrong.
“Alright class please settle down” Mr. Laurence shouted before every single lesson. He teaches English by the way.
I felt Axel flicking little bits of paper balls to the back of my head. He absolutely loves to annoy me. I closed my eyes, praying god to give me patience. The moment Mr. Laurence turned to write something at the board, I whipped round and flicked Axel in the forehead, with a wild smile at my face. He hates it when I did that and had the funniest look on his face every time I did it. I stuck my tongue out, and faced back to the black board. And again watching our every move, was a pair of green eyes from the desk beside me. Frank.
I felt his piercing gaze at me, and I whipped around to face him with the stupidest face that I can muster and flashed him a smile to stop me from laughing, like I always do even before Axel moved to the school. Frank usually would also flash me a big smile and then we broke into a fit of giggles, but now he just stared at me for a second and faced the board, with an unreadable expression on his face. And once again I thought what is wrong with him?
“So class, I have written your assignment on the board, and you may now choose your partners.” Mr. Laurence said from the front of the class.
I quickly turned to face Frank, we are always partners whenever it was possible. But from behind me, Axel shouted at my ear playfully.
“DO YOU WANT TO BE MY PARTNER?” He yelled, receiving lots of glares from everyone around us, including Frank.
“Ummmm” I stalled looking at Frank.
He however started to look around the room quickly and yelled,
“Claire, do you want to be my partner?”
I froze and stared at him. What the heck?, last time I checked, he hated Claire as much as I did. We both thought of her as a brainless prep. What is he thinking?
“Yea, sure.” Claire said back, again tossing her hair and smiling flirtatiously to Frank. Everybody knows that I’m her public enemy no.1 and she would try to get any guy that is close to me. Pathetic isn’t it?
“Alex? Helooo, earth to Alex!” Axel said, snapping his fingers in front of my face.
“Sorry, just spaced out.” I said quickly to him, hoping not to offend him. I looked at Frank once more and saw him gathering his books to sit next to Claire, not once looking at me.
“Sure Axel, I’ll be your partner.” I said firmly. As soon as those words came out of my mouth, Frank slammed his chair to his table. Hard. I jumped slightly and stared at him incredulously.
“Frank, what is wrong?” I said, actually getting really worried.
“Why do you care?” Frank asked back, at this point the whole class were already staring at us and Claire strutted her way to Frank’s side.
“Why are you acting like, this?” I gestured to his glaring eyes and tightly rolled fists. “What did I do wrong?”
“What did you do wrong?” Frank yelled, his tone itself shocked me. “You hardly have time for me, all you do is hang around with your boyfriend.”
The whole crowd that was watching now gasped, and began talking.
“What?!” I yelped, “I don’t have a boyfriend!”
“Then what is him?!” Frank said, gesturing to Axel.
“WHAT?!” I yelled, “He isn’t…”
“Save it, I don’t even want to hear it.” Frank said lifting his hand up and began to turn away.
“Frank, he isn’t…” I began again, getting desperate now. I do not want to loose my best friend over this.
“He doesn’t want to speak to you, okay?” The prissy voice of Claire said with annoyance. I gape in awe as Frank slipped his hand around her tiny waist and walked away with her. The crowd went along with them, throwing sympathetic glances at me
“Axel – he isn’t – he’s just my…” I mumbled incoherently, as tears start to stream down my face. Axel pulled me to him as I sobbed to his chest, still mumbling incoherently. He whispered soothing words to my ear and rubbing my back to calm me down.
“It’s okay, Alex. Calm down. Look Mikey’s coming” Axel whispered to my ear. And sure enough, Mikey was running towards us, a murderous expression on his usually calm face.
“Oh, Lexa” Mikey sighed as I jumped off Axel’s arms and onto my brother’s.
“I don’t get it, Mikes. I didn’t do anything wrong, Why is he doing this to me? What is he doing with the brainless prep?” I sobbed onto his chest.
“Calm down, Lexa. He’s a jerk, wait until I tell Gerard.” Mikey mumbled into my hair.
“NO!” I yelped, I couldn’t imagine what Gerard would do to Frank, he’ll probably beat him to a pulp. Mikey looked at me, questioningly.
“I mean, it’s okay Mikes. I don’t want anything to do with him anymore.” I whispered.
