You're the Voice Inside My Head
The Party Scene Has Got the Best of Me and You
September went by pretty fast and it was now November. Jasmine and Cristal’s birthdays were coming up; the 17th was Jasmine’s and the 18th was Cristal’s. I was planning on getting Jasmine some pajamas and slippers with Power Rangers on them. I already order a shirt for Cristal and some of her favorite CDs. I’ve never been too good in the gift department so hopefully they’ll like them anyways.
Jasmine and Cristal always had their birthday parties together since they were so close. They had separate cakes though which meant more cake for everyone else. Jasmine was turning 15 and Cristal was turning 17. Dirty things are going to happen this weekend. Their party is going to be crazy and I’m sure a little alcohol will be involved due to Cristal’s wild side. The party would take place at Jasmine’s grandparent’s house for it was the biggest house out of the three of us. We always made sure to get them out of the house.
I couldn’t concentrate in school because I was trying to plan the party for the upcoming weekend so it’d be perfect. I think I might have even ignored Alex a couple times which wasn’t usually the case. I felt bad for it but with school and everything I had a lot to deal with. I just hoped he wouldn’t take it personally and I’d make up for it soon enough.
Time flew by and it became Friday. I had everything I needed I just needed to put it all together. I made Jasmine and Cristal go off while I had Alex help me decorate Jasmine’s grandparent’s house. It wasn’t the joist event having to clean her grandparent’s house then put everything up. Alex decided to have all the guys come over and make themselves useful and help clean.
Jack started whining that he didn’t want to clean and Rian chased him with a mop. Most of the guys were downstairs while Alex and I made the beds upstairs. “You know this is probably the first alone moment we’ve shared in a week.” Alex said staring at me. I didn’t know which way he was taking this but I did feel bad about putting him aside. “I feel horrible about this whole thing, I didn’t mean to keep pushing you away, I’ve just been busying with school and trying to make this party perfect.” I said looking down at the dull sheets. “You know you don’t have to apologize for putting your friends before me, I understand.” He said smiling. I didn’t think Alex could be anymore amazing then I already thought, I guess I thought wrong. “You know you’re amazing right?” I smiled at him. “So I’m told.” He blushed.
Everything seemed to be cleaned. The beds were all made, dishes done, clothes cleaned, and the floors even got mopped. It was good enough because later it would just be trashed anyways. Jasmine’s dad was kind enough to donate the alcohol that Cristal among others would later consume. Sure we were underage but he didn’t seem to mind just as long as we stayed in the house. Jasmine’s grandparents took us grocery shopping to buy anything and everything needed for the night.
Alex spent the night at my house so we could head over to Jasmine’s in the morning. I swear my mom was clueless. She insisted that Alex slept in the living room knowing he’d sleep in my bed. My mom gave me a lot of freedom, maybe more than I deserved but I wasn’t about to say anything to change that. Alex and I had been together for awhile but never once did he try to push me into doing anything I wasn’t comfortable with. He got a lot of credit for that because most guys weren’t like that. This meant he had respect for me which made him even more incredible.
“Wake up Alex and Renae; you have to get a move on if you’re going to decorate for the party.” My mother said knocking on my door. I moaned and turned over “Renae wake up.” Alex said softly kissing my neck. “Why can’t we just lay here all day?” I moaned not wanting to move. “Because you’re two best friends are having their birthday party tonight and you need to decorate it.” He said. “Point proven.” I said slowly sitting up rubbing my eyes.
Alex and I headed over to Jasmine’s grandparent’s place to start decorating. We hung up ‘Happy Birthday’ banners over the doorways, spongebob and hello kitty napkins, cups, and plates for everyone, balloons everywhere, and all the snacks and drinks set out on the tables. Also we got a D.J to play for the night that got a list of all the songs we liked.
Everyone from the school was invited including other people Jasmine and Cristal knew. Jasmine’s grandparent’s also had a heated pool and trampoline in their backyard and a hot tub upstairs. Hopefully that would keep people entertained besides the dancing.
7:30pm came and all the guests we already there. There was a large buildup on the table where presents were left. I had Cristal on the phone “are you guys coming?” I asked. “Yeah, yeah we’re on our way.” She seemed to try and calm me down. “How long until you’re here do you think?” I wanted this night to be awesome but it started with there arrival first. “We’re in the driveway.” And she hung up.
“Everyone crouch down they’re coming!” I yelled as I hid behind the kitchen table. Everyone around me disappeared until the lights were turned on by Jasmine. “Surprise!” everyone yelled.
They looked happy for the most part but a bit scared that everyone was yelling at them. “You guys are the best.” Cristal said smiling. “Are we going to get this party started or what?!” Jack yelled over everyone. “Yeah!” everyone yelled back. The music started playing then people started dancing. Jasmine came over to me an hugged me “thank you so much.” She didn’t even let me say anything before I could she was already with Jack. They were hugging like usual until they disappeared in the crowd of people. Cristal came over to me next hugging me “you rock” she smiled. As soon as we let go she was already over by William’s side talking and hugging. “Is everyone going to ditch me tonight?” I mumbled under my breath. “Not me.” I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned around to see Alex’s face smiling at me. I didn’t even think anyone could hear me.
I smiled back at him as he wrapped his fingers with mine. I did feel bad for kind of ignoring him the past week and I knew I needed to make up for it. He led me into the middle of everyone dancing to a slow song. “Can I have this dance?” He held out his hand to me. “Always” was all I needed to say until I was in his arms. I don’t remember the last time he held onto me like this, it made me melt every time.
I opened my eyes and looked around the room. I saw Jack and Jasmine dancing next to Alex and me. I wish times like these never had to end. I picked up my head from Alex’s shoulder “I’m going to go get something to drink I’ll be right back.” I smiled. “Hurry back.” He kissed me and winked. I turned around and made my way through the crowd.
I was at the table where the beverages were set out I went to grab some punch and filled my cup. I started walking back over to where I left Alex but my punch was gone and I went back to get more. I never was a big fan of punch I guess I just felt like drinking it tonight.
I kept going back getting more punch; the music seemed to be getting louder too. I don’t remember how long ago it was I promised Alex I’d be back. “Renae…what are you doing?” I looked up not really able to tell who it was due to my massive headache. “Why are you laying in the corner on the floor?” he asked again. “Let’s get you upstairs.” I felt him picking up and I remember what it felt like when I tried to stand before. I couldn’t. “I guess I’ll have to carry you up there.” Then he picked me up bringing me through the crowd.
I closed my eyes because it hurt my head to much to look at everything. I felt him set me down on the bed closing the door behind him locking it. “Are you okay?” he asked. “My head hurts and everything makes me feel dizzy looking at it.” I said holding my head. “You’ve gone and got yourself drunk.” He chuckled a little. “But all I had was punch.” I protested. “Yeah that was most likely spiked.” He told me. “I’ve never got drunk before, I didn’t plan on it either.” I whined. “You looked like you’d been there for awhile too, probably passed out. I’ll be right back don’t move.” I heard him shut the door.
I opened my eyes hoping I could see clearly this time. I was in Jasmine’s room on her bed, where he left me. I heard the door opening and I sat up on the bed. “Here I brought you some Advil for your headache and some water.” He handed them to me. I swallowed them. “Why are you being so nice to me Butcher?” I was shocked seeing him taking care of me. “Well you’re my friend and I didn’t think you’d like Alex finding you passed out on the floor.” He said looking at me. “Thanks.” I said smiling.
“I should go get Alex.” He left before I could say anything. Alex came into Jasmine’s room and locked the door behind him so no one would come in. “I was so worried about you! You left to get something to drink and didn’t come back for about an hour and I couldn’t find you.” He said hugging me. “I passed out.” I said looking at the floor. “You were drinking?” he asked surprised. “The punch was spiked and I didn’t realize.” I said. “Well it’s not you’re fault, I wouldn’t really care if you drank it’s just you said you don’t like to.” He hugged me again. “I’m going to go to bed.” I said. He started getting up and walked towards the door “What are you doing?” I asked. “Going back downstairs?” He looked at me. “Oh I thought you’d stay with me, but you don’t have to.” I said lying down. “I didn’t know you wanted me to.” He smiled and shut off the lights. “I’ll always want you.”
