Chapter Thirty-Seven

His father’s eyes unsettled me.

I swear they glowed. They glowed like that night Cullen pinned me to the ground.

Like that saying goes… if looks could kill.

I swallowed hard as Cullen squeezed my hand, opened the car door and slid out. The gravel crunching under his feet. Quickly I followed, throwing open the door and maneuvering around his car to stand next to him. I didn’t dare make eye contact. His fathers eerie eyes glared down at me. I gripped Cullen’s arm as his father opened his mouth to speak.

Coming out in hushed sounds, his father spoke quickly, speaking too fast for me to hear. His hard eyes on me the entire time. I felt Cullen stiffen next to me as his father continued. Slowly Cullen wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me to his body. I shuddered inwardly as I rested my hand against his stomach. I could feel the outline of his muscles through his thin shirt.

His father’s eyes narrowed at the gesture. Finally taking his eyes off me, and turning them on his son. He quickly spat something and then turned to walk inside. I’m not sure exactly why his father doesn’t like me… but I have this hinky feeling…

Cullen sighed as he looked down at me, forcing a smile, and then grabbing my hand and walking me toward the back seat. He opened the sleek car door and grabbed bag. Shutting the door, he closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.

“What’s wrong?” I whispered, there was something wrong. He usually acted with such confidence. He brought his gaze down to my small frame and sighed again.

“Nothing, I have to go talk to someone. I need you to stay in my room. Do not leave my room, not even to go out in the living area,” he spoke quietly, his eyes giving him a determined look. I nodded slowly as he grabbed my hand and led me toward the front door. As we walked through, I let out a small gasp. The entrance was absolutely magnificent. Royal red walls with long pieces of wood shaped into diamonds, and a chair rail. The floors were made of marble, and the room had at least ten columns, holding up the upper floors. We steadily walked up the stairs, toward the west wing where his room was placed.

“I will warn you now. I have sisters. Two of them. Do not, I repeat do not play dress up with them. They may be young, but they have wicked imaginations.” He spoke as he turned right toward another part of the large estate. “This right here is my sisters wing.” He motioned toward double doors that you could faintly hear giggling coming from and continued to move forward until we reached the end of the hallway. The grand double doors that I faintly remembered entering through the last time stared down menacingly. I hesitated as Cullen opened the door and motioned for me to follow.

Through the doors, I could make out a figure on the couch. I smiled warily as I followed Cullen. There, sitting on the couch, was none other than Alec, playing his game intensely, muttering words unintelligible through the headset. His thumbs clicking on the controller in such a quick rhythm, I almost laughed. Personally I had never played video games, but it always interested me whenever people I knew played them. I gingerly stepped toward him to see the television better, but my wrist was quickly captured by Cullen.

He stared down at me emotionlessly, millions of things swirling in his eyes. I lifted my hand to brush his cheek, but he pulled away before I could make contact.

“Alec.” He spoke, causing Alec to finally pause his game and turn his attention to his friend. His eyes widened as he caught sight of me, and then sent a questioningly gaze to dark haired boy next to me. Cullen just shook his head and nodded towards his bedroom door. Alec quickly stood up and walked in the room, Cullen following closely behind closing the double doors to his bedroom behind him.

I looked around the room, everything was the exact same as it had been the last time. I sighed as I plopped down on the couch that Alec had once been occupying. I glanced toward the door that they had just disappeared into, and sighed again as I heard rushed whispers. Both voices growing louder and louder as the seconds past.

I frowned, I had a feeling that none of this was going to end well. For some reason, being in this place frightened me. I glanced at the doors as I stood up and made my way toward the glass pained window. I stared out into the darkness, the court yard softly illuminated by lamps that were artistically placed. I breathed deeply as I watched a sleek white car pull into the drive. I cocked my head to the side as I watched two men in their thirties step out of the vehicle. Both with stern expressions, they walked toward the entrance of the mansion.

My eyes widened as a young boy and girl emerged from the rear of the vehicle. My breathe hitched as he ran his fingers through his soft locks. Suddenly, as if feeling my stare he stopped in his tracks, visibly tensing up. The girl stopped and rubbed his shoulders and spoke to him. Instantly, his head snapped up in my direction. He stared intently, the curve of his lips turning slightly up creating a slight smirk. I let out a small shriek and backed away from the window, my legs running into a stray ottoman. I collapsed to the floor as the bedroom doors swung open. Cullen instantly by my side. My eyes wide, I continued to stare at the window. I shook my head. Someone was talking; someone was asking me a question.

But I couldn’t listen… he was here… and for some reason… I felt as if I was in even more danger than the night I broke into the buildings downtown.
