This Is How I Disappear

“I think we should build a fort. I mean there is so many girls in that house, that it’s suffocating the testosterone,” Mikey said as we were walking around in the woods. I was standing on the right side and Bob was standing on other side of him. I laughed lightly as we were walking past one of the many small ponds within the forest. I was laughing both at his statement and at the same time it was and unbelievable laugh. He had no idea how good he had it. He had a woman by his side and she would do anything for him. I never had that going for me, never had a girl to love and have her love me back. I looked to the ground and remembered that Bob and I made up a singles club together and now I can see that being slowly destroyed. Don’t get me wrong, Cay is great for him, but I just feel even lonelier.

“You know you can do that. Zanira will be able to see you and Cay can play horrible tricks on us. It’s not a very good idea,” Bob explained. Mikey sighed knowing that he was right; there was no way for us men to escape.

“At least we still have our band,” Mikey commented and we all shook our heads. It was true, we still had the band, but we hadn’t played since Gerard found out about Analisa. We never found time between all the drama and wedding plans to sit down and write anything.

“We should have band practice again,” I said and everyone agreed. I smiled knowing that I still could count on my boys, “So Bob, how are you dealing with your little sister getting married?”

“It’s hard to deal with. I like Frankie as a friend, but not as a brother in law. It is just too weird. But if that’s what makes her happy, then I’m happy for her. She is going to be so surprised when he asks her,” he said and I knew he didn’t like the union too much, but with time I know he will warm up to it. I used my mind powers and dug into his brain and realized that he is no longer her protector and that scared him to death.

“Well you do have Cay now to protect,” I gave him a sly smile and he shook his head.

“You know I really hate when you can read my mind. I wish I was able to stop you from-“he cut himself off and stared into the woods. I looked at him curiously and Mikey just looked between us both obviously confused, “I think I heard something guys. Ray, can you hear anything?”

I used my power and pushed it out as far as it could go, but I heard nothing. I looked at Bob like he was crazy and shook my head no, “I can only hear you and Mikey.”

“That’s in possible, I can hear someone walking,” he said and then suddenly the bush started to move. I jumped back along with the other two and got ready for whatever it was. These days you never know what would come out of that forest. As we watched the bushes, I kept trying to see what it was, but I heard nothing. Suddenly a figure emerged out of the forest, looking completely disheveled. It was a young girl, probably in her twenties and her hair was frizzy with leaves sticking out everywhere. Her clothes were torn and she worn nothing on her feet. Her eyes looked tired and puffy red. He rose her eyes up and stared up at everyone with fear in her eyes, “Who are you?”

“I’m Andy, I am looking for the Way Clan,” she spoke softly and I let my guard down a little, but still ready for anything.

“Who wants to know?” I asked her while standing in front of Mikey, who was part of the royal family.

“I was told to come here by Aiden. The castle was burned to the ground, I w as one of the few that were able to escape. She told me to run her and hide out. She told me that I would be safe,” she explained and I still couldn’t read her mind to see if she was right.

“You’re a vampire?” Bob asked slowly and it clicked.

“Yes,” she was a mind reader. I heard that mind readers were unable to hear each other; it was like they were blocking each other.

“That is why I couldn’t hear your thoughts,” I said slowly and Bob looked at us both confused.

“You’re a mind reader?” she asked shocked and smiled. I smiled back and shook my head yes, “Awesome, but can you guys help me? I really need to find the Clan. I have important information for them,” she explained. I looked over at Bob to see if we should let her. He looked at her hard and bites his lip showing his large white fangs.

“Fine, but you are not to touch any of them. You are to stay in sight at all times,” he explained and she shook her head. He nodded his head towards the house. He ushers her to go first and nods for me to walk next to her. Mikey stayed behind us and was walking along side of Bob.

“So what is your name mind reader?” she asked me. I looked at her and then back in front of us.

“Ray,” I answered.

“And muscles?” she asked referring to Bob

“That’s Bob,” I explained and lead her through various twist and turns that are on the path leading to the house. She shook her head understanding.

“And glasses?”

“That is nobody really, just a servant,” I told her knowing that she couldn’t hear my thoughts. I was just afraid that she would find out that he is a Way. I didn’t want her to turn on us now and destroy us. I looked over at her and finally noticed just how beautiful she was. She had long brown hair that was a little messed up right now, but I can imagine it. She had these deep rich brown eyes that were complientmented by her soft pale skin. She was thin and wore a dress that would have gone to the floor. It was of coursed ripped from walking and had holes from tree branches.

“I was a maiden for Aiden,” she explained as she tried to smooth out her hair, “I was her right hand woman you can say. I would do everything for her. I just can’t believe she is gone.” I shook my head understanding what she meant. I was in almost the same position. I was Gerard’s go to guy. All of us boys were, but he trusted me the most. We had finally reached the house when Bob moved in front of us put up his hands.

“Ray, stand out here and watch her. I will go explain to Alexander and Gerard what happened,” he said and motioned for Mikey to walk in with him. He led him in and Andy sighed while walking towards the house. I kept close her until she just sat down on one of the steps. She brought her knees up and rested her elbows on them. She held her head in her hands and watched me.

“You know, you’re a really nice guy. I mean muscles was mean to me from the beginning,” she explained.

“He is only doing his job, just like me,” I told her and crossed my arms over my chest. I couldn’t help but look at this girl. She was frustrating me more and more now. First I could not read her mind and now her beauty was breath taking. She reached around and started to pull leaves out of her hair. I couldn’t help but chuckle lightly as she was pulling them out, making a weird face.

“What is so funny Ray?” she asked me.

“Your face is priceless,” I told her and walked over closer to her. I could feel that she wasn’t a treat to us, but I knew I still had to keep somewhat of a guard up. I reached out and pulled the last few leaves from her hair.

“Thanks,” she whispered and brushed her dress off, “I hate looking like a bum in front of any royal family.”

“Its okay, this family doesn’t care too much about clothing. At least not all of them,” I smiled thinking of various ways Zanira was going to doll her up. She nodded and stood up once we heard the door. Bob stepped out and motioned for us to enter. I walked up behind her and Bob lead us into the common room. Alexander was standing in the center of the room with Gerard next to him and Mikey on the other side of him. The girls were nowhere in sight, but I noticed Frankie standing behind the ways protectively. Bob stood in front of them and nodded for Andy to stand next to him. I stood next to her and she looked up at me scared again.

“What is your name again?” Alexander asked and Andy looked straight on.

“Andy. I was a maiden for one of the Tripods, Aiden specifically,” she answered and Alexander nodded understanding.

“I hear you have some important news for me,” he said and she nodded taking a deep breath.

“Before the fire, Aiden came to me and told me something bad was going to happen. She told me that I had to get to the Way’s land and I would be completely safe. She also explained that if none of them lived then you, Alexander would be moved up to the leader. You would have to appoint to more members to form the Tripod. She told me that you were the next on the list to becoming the next powerful and wises,” she explained and I could see the shock on Alexander’s face. We all didn’t think it was true, but just her conforming what Charles had said and it made everything real. Gerard took a deep breath and stared at the ground. Damien of course was like another father figure to him, but it hurt him just the same.

“Ray, is she telling the truth?” Gerard asked me.

“I am sorry sir, but I cannot read her mind, she is a mind reader like me,” I explained to them and they all step back. I felt like I was letting them down, but what could I do, I was unable to perform my duties. Alexander shook his head and looked back at Andy.

“Do you have the papers?” he asked her. She nodded and reached into her side pocket. She pulled out a yellowish paper that had various list on them. I had heard of this before and it had every vampire that ruled the various lands and who was next to being the leader on the Tripod list. Alexander reached out and took the paper from her, while staring into her eyes deeply trying to find any hint of lying. But he sighed knowing he could not find anything, “Ray would you please take our new guest up to a room and help her freshen up.”

I shook my head and held her out of the room. Bob backed down knowing that Alexander was going to trust her, but we all knew that we were going to keep a close eye on her. I could feel everyone eyes on us as we exited out of the room and then up the stair case.
“That by far, is the most nerve wracking thing I had ever done,” she said as we reached the top of the stairs. I smiled at her and lead her down the hallway, “This house is huge!”

“Well, there are a lot of people living here,” I smiled and ushered her into a guest room. She walked into the room and just stood in the middle of the room. She was staring out the window and then around the room.

“Ray, this is too much. Are the Way’s always like this?” she asked me. I laughed lightly and shook my head yes. The Ways loved to go over the top and make anyone feel at home.

“Just get settled in and wash up a bit, jeeze,” I joked with her and she laughed while hitting my arm. I walked out of her room and closed the door. I sighed deeply knowing I was falling for this girl, and I hardly even know her.
