You Saved Me

Freedom

“Trisha?! Can you come down here?!” Bobby’s urgent voice boomed through the house from somewhere downstairs.

“Uh….sure. I’ll be right done.” she said nervously as she finished crimping her hair.

She didn’t really know what else to do since she finished her homework and all the projects that her teachers gave her since she was grounded for the last week. So she opted on trying out new hairstyles and playing with her make up and trying different looks.

Crap! He knows I snuck out last night and he’s gonna sentence me to be grounded for the rest of my life. Crap! Stupid Joe for getting me caught!

As she turned off her crimper and looked in the mirror and decided she actually liked her hair crimped she slowly got up from her vanity and made her way down the stairs to see Bobby running around the bottom half of the house, practically tearing it apart.

That’s gonna be me in a couple seconds…torn apart.

“What’s up?” she asked, trying her hardest to hide her nervousness.

“I got called in today and since I won’t be here to supervise you and make sure you stick to the rules that I laid down for you, your off the hook.” he said while pushing aside a stack of papers and finding some little gadget he must’ve needed since he smiled in success before shoving it his pocket.

A huge smile came across her face from hearing those words and right as she was yell out an enthusiastic ‘Yes’, he finished his sentence.

“But there is one technicality.”

Crap. What? I can’t breathe now or something?

“You have to stay in the house. And don’t try sneaking out because I will call and check on you a couple times to make sure you’re here. So stay in the house, but feel free to do anything you want. I gotta go. I’m already late as it is. Bye!” he quickly said and before Brittany could even fully understand what he said to her, he was gone.

She stood there dumbfounded, staring at the closed front door for a few minutes until she heard the house phone ring, making her jump back to reality and run to go answer it.

“Hello?”

“Hey. Just calling to make sure you didn’t already leave the house.” she heard Bobby say to her followed by a laugh.

“And to let you know I left money on the counter so you can order a pizza or something if you don’t feel like making anything.”

“Thanks Bobby.” she said back to him with smile.

“No problem kiddo. Alright but I gotta go. People don’t know how to drive these days. Watch where your goi-” and with that the line went dead and she couldn’t help but laugh from hearing Bobby’s angry yell before the line got disconnected.

As she hung up the phone she looked around the empty house that was hers for the rest of the day.

A smile slowly came across her face before she dashed upstairs to her cell phone.

She knew exactly what she was going to do today.

* * * * *

“Joooooeeeeee! This is so boring. Can we please do something fun?” Brittany whined at him since he was currently sitting on the couch, eyes glued to the TV since the news was on.

Yes. The news. Joseph Jonas was ignoring his new girlfriend of a day, not even, to watch the news while Kevin and Steph laughed softly under their breaths.

“But this is interesting.” Joe said back monotone, not even bothering to look at her, eyes still transfixed to the screen.

“Ya know…” Brittany sighed out while she got up from her seat next to him and stood in front of him to block his view. “When I said yes to being your girlfriend, I didn’t think that being boring and lame was what you were gonna turn into.”

Joe’s head finally snapped up at her to see her fighting a smirk, and he stood up quickly and looked down at her while she took a few steps away from him

“I am not boring and lame. And you are so gonna get that missy.” and with that he launched himself at her with a smile on his face as he chased her around the house.

“Well since you two kids are playing tag, we’re gonna go get some Starbucks. Be back in 15-20 minutes Kevin yelled through the house as Steph got up from his lap to allow him to get off the loveseat they were sitting on.

The only response they got from the two was a playful shriek from Brittany and Joe saying, “I’m gonna get you!”

The two shook their heads with smiles on their faces before they exited the house and proceeded towards Kevin car, leaving Joe and Brittany still running like crazy people in the house.

“Get over here!” Joe ordered through his laughter as he stood at one end of the island that was in the kitchen while Brittany stood at the other, getting ready to go the opposite direction of whatever way Joe was going to go.

“You can’t just tell me to come by you. You have to earn it.” she laughed out while she moved to the left slightly to counter his step that he had taken to the right.

“Fine. Be that way.” and with that he wiped his smile from his face and let his arms go limp by his sides as he turned around and headed back towards the living room, leaving a slightly stunned Brittany in
the kitchen.

She didn’t expect him to give up so easily. She actually didn’t expect him to give up at all. It just wasn’t Joe nature and she was starting to think that the sudden change from how he was last night with her to now was because the ‘chase’ was done with now that he had her as his girlfriend.

“Joe?” she called as she slowly made her way around the island and towards the doorway to the living room.

“Joe?” she called again when she didn’t hear any response and she stood in the doorway of the kitchen for a few seconds, scanning the area before her for his signature mop of his perfectly messy black hair.

She took two steps, allowing herself to be able to see the whole of the living room, empty, from the wall cutting off and right as she was about to say his name again, he appeared from behind the cut off wall and shoved her up against the closet door as she let out a small shriek before a smile came on her face.

“Gotcha.” he whispered to her with a mischievous grin across his face as he held her arms over her head.

“You nearly gave me a heart attack you know that right?” she asked through deep breaths, not bothering to try and move her arms.

“Too bad I didn‘t. Then I would’ve given you mouth to mouth to bring you back to me.” he said with a sly smile and moved away from her slowly but then she pretended to go limp right there up against the wall as she shut her eyes and rolled her head to the side.

“Oh no. My girlfriend is unconscious. I think I will save her now.” Joe said choppy with pauses in between every couple of words while a small smile faintly flickered across Brittany’s face as she chuckled slightly under her breath.

He moved in closer to her with a smile on his face that she would play along with the whole heart attack thing and gave her a soft kiss, making a tingling feeling make its way through her body as she smiled against his lips.

He slowly brought his hands down from above her head, releasing her arms in the process, and cupped the side of her face with one of his hands as his other one found a place on her hip.

She leaned back a little bit more into the door to have something steady to keep her somewhat standing from his kiss that was slowly turning into a make out session with her pinned up against the door.

That was until Kevin burst into the house making Joe jump away from her and point down at the floor while saying, “Oh that. Oh, I see.”

“Dude, I’m not 8.” Kevin laughed out while making his way into the living room and grabbing his wallet off of the little table that was next to the loveseat. “You two want anything?”

The two looked back at each other, smiles on their faces and their faces pink from the intrusion.

“No. We’re good. Take your time.” Joe said as he smiled at Brittany, not moving his head the slightest to talk to Kevin.

“Ok…but go easy on her Joe. She looks like she was about to die.” Kevin stated and then was out the door again while Brittany’s face flushed to a shade of red now.

“Sorry I almost killed you.” he grinned at her as he took a step towards her while she sucked in a big breath so her lungs could get air back into it’s system.

“It’s ok. You just took my breath away is all.” she said with a shy smile towards him as he grinned back at her while he advanced.

She took in another deep breath, getting ready for who knew how long their next kiss was gonna be as he leaned towards her again, putting both hands on the side of her head on the door and letting his face linger about 3 inches from her face, making her squirm with anticipation from his proximity.

Just kiss me again…I can’t take this!

“I want to make a promise to you…ok?” he asked, his face still mere inches from hers but his smile now gone from his face and replaced with a serious look.

Her breath hitched somewhat from his statement but she nodded her head nonetheless.
It was weird to see Joe so serious, and even though she’d only know him for a little under 3 months, he was only serious when something was wrong.

How can anything be wrong? We just started dating? Maybe that’s it! Maybe he doesn’t want to date me anymore…

“Come here.” he stated and with that he pushed himself off the wall and grabbed one of her hands and pulled her to the couch.

“Trisha…” he trailed off, giving her time to actually find her voice and say something.

“Joe…you’re scaring me. Like, really scaring me. What’s wrong? You never call me that.”

“I know. But this is serious. At least, as serious as your gonna get from me.” he said and then looked down at his lap.

He quickly grabbed her other hand and pulled them both up to his face, giving each hand a kiss before resting them on her knees.

“Trisha, I’ve only known you for about 3 months now and we just started dating, but I want you to know that I really care about you.”

“I really ca-” she started to reciprocate, but he stopped her by looking up at her and shaking his head.“Wait till I’m finished ok?”

She nodded her head and he gave her a small smile before continuing, looking down at his lap again.

“Anyways, I really care about you. And I really really like you. And I just want to make a promise to you that no matter what happens from here on out, I’ll always be there for you. As a friend, as protector, as a person to vent to. I want you to know that you can come to me with anything. Anything your feel uncomfortable talking about or sharing, I want you to know that I’ll always be there for you. No matter what it is. I won’t judge you or look at you differently or think less of you.”

She looked at him shocked for a few seconds and thinking, He knows. Oh my god he knows. That’s why he saying all this stuff to me! Steph must’ve told him! I’m gonna kill her! I swear, when she gets back I’m gonna wring her tiny little neck!”

“How did you-” she asked him slowly but he only cut her off with another shake of his head and saying, “I’m not done yet.”

She nodded her head again and waited for him to talk again as he looked past her towards the living room wall, like he was recollecting his thoughts.

“And I promise that I’ll always come to you whenever I have a problem. Like right now. I have something important to tell you, but I really want to make sure that you understand how much you mean to me and how much that no matter what, I’ll always be there for you, no matter what happens to us in the end.”

She took in a deep breath and looked around the room from how nervous she was.

He was really scaring her now. And that wasn’t helping her nerves that she had to begin with when he led her over to the couch to talk.

She nodded her head again obediently as she squeezed his hands, knowing that if she talked he was going to cut her off again.

“I’m gonna be leaving in a few days to some benefit thing in New York. I’d invite you, but I don’t think that your Uncle would let you skip school.” he said straight faced while Brittany let out a sigh of relief and couldn’t help but laugh quietly at herself for how stupid she got for thinking Steph would betray her like that. But some guilt came through her system when she remembered that Steph did know everything and Joe didn’t. He still thought that Bobby was her uncle, but she tried to brush it off slightly as she answered him since he was looking at her with expectant eyes.

“Joe that’s ok. I understand. And you’re right. Bobby wouldn’t let me skip school to go to New York. Don’t worry about that. I understand. You have responsibility. It’s no biggie.”

“Good. I’m glad you think like that…cuz there’s more.” he said, letting out a sigh, afraid that she might be mad at him for leaving her so early in their relationship for a few days.

“Ok…like what?” she asked, giving him an encouraging smile that he greatly appreciated.

“Well, it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but I think in about a month we’re gonna, meaning my brothers and I, are gonna be leaving to go on tour. I’d be a short one...like 2 months or something…but I just thought I’d let you know.” he said, worry spreading across his face as she sat there a little shocked at his words.

“So…” she finally was able to say, but that was it.

She didn’t know what to say to that.

As much as she cared about him and needed him to be around her, she knew he had responsibilities from being in a band.

Should I write it off as nothing, or do I make a big scene? If I act like I don’t care, then he’ll think I don’t care about him and his dream. But if I make a big scene he might dump me because he’ll think I want him all to myself.

“I’m not….” she said, choking on her words and Joe’s eyebrows lifted slightly higher on his face from how nervous he was about he reaction to all of this.

As much as he didn’t want to drop it all on her, he had to. She had a right to know before anyone else knew.

“How should I react to this?” she was finally able to ask him.

“What do you mean?” he asked her back, completely at a loss for words at her question.

“Well, I don’t want to act like I don’t care but I don’t want to make a big scene either. Cuz if I act like I don’t care, then that’s exactly what you’ll think. I don’t care about you. But if I make a big scene and stomp my feet that’ll just make you want to dump me. So…how do you want me to handle this?” she explained to him while he nodded his head in understanding somewhat before saying, “React however you want to react. I already told you that I care about you a lot and that I’ll always be there for you.”

She nodded her head and recollected her thoughts.

That didn’t help me at all…

But since he did say all that wonderful stuff, about how he would always be there and wouldn’t think bad about her she did the only thing she thought she should do at the moment.

“I’m really gonna miss you.” she said while pulling him into a hug and kissing his cheek.

“That’s it? No screaming or yelling or anything like that?” he asked her back skeptically while slowly wrapping his arms around her waist.

She just chuckled before pulling away from him slightly and looked at him in the eyes.

“Well it’s not like you’re telling me the day before. If it were that, I probably would be throwing stuff at you. But from what I see, we have like what….3 days until you leave for New York for what…2 days? And then give or take a month together until you’re gone for 2 months? We’ll just live in the moment.” she said, sending him a smile before giving him a quick kiss and then said, “Unless you want me to yell at you and stomp my feet.”

“No, no. I just figured that…never mind.” he stuttered out, abandoning his skepticism and replacing it with adoration for her.

“Your amazing.” he whispered in her ear while pulling her into him for a hug.

Your incredible.
