What Happens Under The Sun

Chapter Forty-one

I picked up the phone and dialed Tom's number, or at least the one that had been listed beside his name on my dad's file.

''Hello?'' Tom answered, sounding like he just woke up. it was only ten and I wasn't surprised.

''What are you doing today?'' I asked.

''Nothing why? Wait, who is this?'' he asked.

''That's all, goodbye.'' I said and then hung up.

''What are you doing?'' Jessica asked, coming out of her bedroom.

''Making plans.'' I said sweetly.

''You were making sure he's going to be home aren't you?'' she asked.

''Maybe.''

''You really are horrible.'' She laughed and I winked.

My phone started to ring loudly and I grabbed it before it could wake up the girl next to me.

''Hello?'' I answered without looking at the caller ID.

''What are you doing today?'' a girl asked.

''Nothing why?'' I answered and then realized I had no clue who I was talking to.

''Wait, who is this?'' I asked, sitting up a bit.

''That's all, goodbye.'' And the line went dead.

''That was weird.'' I muttered to myself. The girl's voice was familiar, but I just couldn't place it.

I looked at the blonde beside me who was still sleeping soundly. I got out of bed and pulled my boxers on.

Last night I had decided that I was going to find out more about Kate, but I didn't know the first place to start. So I looked where you find anyone's address and phone number. The phone book. It was a far stretch and I highly doubted that she'd be listed but it was still a start.

I flipped through to the R's and looked for her name. Sure enough it wasn't there. I put the phonebook back under the counter and headed back to my room. It was about time this blonde woke up and went home.

This time when I lay down, I jostled the bed a bit and then moved right up against her, draping one arm over her waist. When she didn't stir, I kissed her exposed shoulder and neck until she moved.

''Hey there.'' She said with a soft smile and I returned it.

She turned over so that she was facing my and he head was on my pillow.

''What time is it?'' she asked. She couldn't see the clock from where she was.

''Around ten.'' I told her.

''I should go.'' She said but made no movement to go anywhere.

I pulled her close by her waist, pushing her hips against mine and started to kiss her neck. I had figured out that a good way to get a girl out of your bed is to make it seem like you expected a repeat of the night before the morning after.

Except for Kate, I thought with a slight smirk. Kate would be all for a repeat the next morning. In fact, that one time in the shower… I pushed the memory away. That was a different time.

I still couldn't believe that I was comparing this girl to Kate again. I needed to get out of her hold somehow.

''I can't, I really have to go.'' The girl said and this time she got out of bed.

I watched her get dressed in last night's clothes and then walked her to my door.

''So call me sometime.'' She said, handing me a business card with her cell number on the back.

''Sure.'' I said and she smiled.

She kissed me softly on the lips before she left and I closed the door behind her. I dropped her number into a drawer on the table by the door and went to the kitchen in search of something to eat.

To be completely honest, I had no intention of calling that girl. As much as I hated to admit it, part of me –a deep completely out of my control part- wished that girl was Kate, but she didn't even come close.

I needed to stop thinking about that damn girl, all girls for that matter. I turned my stereo up as loud as the neighbors could handle it and blared one of my Samy Deluxe CDs.

When my head was finally free of women and filled with music, I went to the kitchen and made a sandwich.

I turned one more time in front of the mirror before deciding that what I was wearing was alright.

''Kate?'' Jessica called.

''Yea?''

''Jordan just called. We're going out for the afternoon, I should be back around six.'' She told me.

''Have fun!'' I said.

''Oh I will.'' She replied and I chuckled.

I put on an oversized t-shirt and went to watch TV. I had every intention of going to Tom's apartment today, but I could wait a while.

I scrolled down and an involuntary smirk crept across my lips as I read.

Although the paparazzi could be –and were most of the time- annoying, sometimes they could be quite helpful.
I jotted down Kate's address and shut off my computer.

This afternoon, Kate would be in for quite the surprise.
