Trying to Escape the Inevitable
Chapter 7
(Flashback)
“So I failed what’s the big deal?”
She attempted to give me one of her stern looks, “Frankie, I know you want to be a musician but please, at least try to graduate high school?”
“If it’s for you, then I guess I’ll have to try. But when am I going to need this if I’m going to be in a band anyway?”
She smiled and gave me a big bear hug. “Between me and you, you’re not going to need half of this stuff even if you don’t join a band.”
I grinned and smiled at the only person in my family who really understood me: my mother.
She smiled and kissed the top of my head. “You’ll be fine alone while I’m out with your dad?”
I nodded. “I’m going to Gerard’s house for a while anyway.”
“Tell Gerard, and Mikey I say hello will you?”
I grinned and nodded. They loved my mother.
My dad walked into the kitchen and ruffled my hair. “See ya later all right kid?”
I grinned pretending to punch my dad in the stomach “yeah, I’ll see you later dad.”
(End Flashback)
My dad glanced at me , “You alright kid?”
I glanced at him, “yeah just thinking.”
“About what?”
“About how much I want things to go back the way they were, and how much I miss her.”
My dad hesitantly rubbed his hand across my neck, “Don’t worry kid. I miss her too kid. I miss her too.”
I flinched slightly and he pulled his hand away.
“Look Frankie, I never meant to hurt you. I was just so…..angry and hurt I didn’t know what to do and I’m so sorry that I ever thought about hurting you. Can you forgive me?”
I sat still and silent. I had no idea what to say. “I don’t really know dad."
He sighed. “I didn’t expect you to be able to. Will you just come back and live with me again?”
I sat silently, thinking. I didn’t really know what to do. I had no desire to live with him again.
He’d just start drinking and hitting me again. “No. Not until you prove that you’re willing to start again and not go back to drinking all over again. I need a dad, not a fucking alcoholic.”
He nodded as he got up to leave. “That’s understandable. I’ll see you around alright kid?”
I nodded and went upstairs to Gerard and Mikey’s room. Maybe I did really have my father back. Maybe this wasn’t too good to be true.
