I Can Wait Til Twilight, I Can Wait Forever
Red Masquerade
When I woke up in the morning, warm beams of sun were already penetrating through the window. I pushed myself up by my elbows, arching back as I felt every vertebrate crack. Bella just insisted that I sleep in her bed despite me being two feet too tall. I tried srunching myself against the wall in the fetal position against the wall so my knees wouldn't be hanging off the end of the bed. The sky was smeared only with the last traces of pink, I can't remember the last time I slept this late. It was going to be a decent day. My feverish body was already feeling scalded by the heat. I am sure my mortal self would have thought it still a bit cold, but by noon humidity would cling to the air.
I looked over at Bella who was still sleeping, snoring ever so softly. The important thing was she have a good time. These people were human, she needed these friends. She didn't know how much she needed these people as friends. She needs to be a part of their of world. Not Edward's. Not even mine would suffice.
Bella had made me try to help her find something to wear to the beach, which is to says he was completely barking up the wrong decision since I am the defenition of anti fashion. I think once she saw I wearing a wife beater, shorts that had once been jeans until I grew too tall for them, and Jacob's old, oversized ratty hoodie that she was better off on her own. She ended up wearing cargo capris, a blue striped tank, and a pale yellow hoodie until it got warmer. She had pulled her hair back carelessly after I told her the ocean water would just turn her hair into a rat's nest either way. Dark purple circles hung under her eyes from waking too early as we made towards a group of children gathered at Mikes family's outdoor goods store. I stiffened as we approached, but Bella continued to drift on drearily. I had to elbow her in the side just to stop.
"I wasn't sure you would make it." Mike grinned, jogging forward to greet us.
"I said I would." Bella smiled sleepily, sending tremors through her body to try to wake herself.
"Who is your friend?" It was almost as if a veil had been ripped from Mike's face. His eyes widened as his face became alert of my presence.
"This is Sonny, Sonny Mike." Bella motioned with her had carelessly.
"Yeah I know." I inclined my head to him to awknowledge his presence.
"Really? I am almost positive that I would remember you." Mike had this goofy grin on my face. Bella looked up at me oddly.
"Oh yeah, I take my dad to you family's shop. You know the guy in the wheelchair. Remember yet?"
"Oh... yeah." Mike's ears were burning to match the color in his cheeks.
"That was cold!" Tyler laughed heartily as he turned to face us. As soon as he say me, he bit his lip while looking me up and down.
"Erm Sonny... This is Tyler, and the two back there are Lauren and Jessica..." Bella rattled off a few more names, but it wasn't like I was going to remember them. It was not like she expected me to either. She was just trying to space out the awkward tension.
"Well, Como estas mamacita?" Tyler grinned, sliding forth smoothly to kiss my hand.
"Oh Tyler grow up. I am sure she is fully aware she is mexican, it's not like she automatically knows spanish." Jessica defended, greatful that I had atleast rejected Mike's approach.
"No actually I am from La Push."
"What is a mexican doing on a reservation?"
"Oh come on Jessica, I could have told you she isn't mexican. Your a chili picker right? Sorry I don't mean it like that, I mean your family probably works trivial jobs on the rez." Lauren, who had been beaseated on her throne of the hood of the car, came towards us speaking arrogantly. She was already in here bikini top with her sweatshirt only slightly zipped up so everyone could see her abs and her chest that she flaunted so proudly.
"I am a cashier."
"Oh." Was all the girl said though it lacked any trace of an apology.
"Your hair is so pretty. I wish mine would get that long." Jessica laughed nervously, trying to change the subject. I wanted to tell her that it would probably help if she quite getting her hair cut every two weeks, but I was greatful she had atleast changed the subject. Lauren held some sort of hostility towards me.
"Do you sacrafice babies and shake your genetalia around a fire to get it that long? Kidding." Lauren snorted, adding the last part as if it made everything ok. She stared cynically through me, screaming that she meant every word of it.
"Just like I am sure you kneel before your porcelin alter after every meal to be so skinny. Kidding." I mimicked, stepping closer. Did she think she could honestly mess with me? I was a good foot and a half taller then her with sinew ripples under my russet flesh. Just let her try.
"Atleast I am all natural." Lauren giggled, reaching out and grabbed a handful of my hair.
"Oh, I am so sorry. I thought it was a wig." Lauren sneered, pulling back a handful of hair. Hatred spewed from my pupils. It was only when I felt my veins begin to ripple in my hands, did I notice the makings of a phase. I grabbed my hands to steady them. No, I couldn't phase. Not now. There was no where to run and hide in the middle of this desolate parking lot. I couldn't phase. It wasn't like I could play it off as a joke after I morphed back from wolf to human. Oh I really got you good there! You thought I was a wolf? Gulliable! No, I couldn't phase.
"Maybe we should start heading out. It will be warm soon." A girl in the back offered meekly. She was tucked way in the back, I hadn't even noticed her until now.
"Yeah... That was really uncalled for Lauren." Mike scowled, throwing himself into the driver's seat of his van.
"Seriously, talk about natural. Good bye small A, hello full D." Tyler purred at me as headed towards the van. Lauren's jaw nearly hit the floor and I wasn't able to stifle a laugh. Lauren walked past to the van, bumping into me a supposed accident.
"God, I am so sorry. Maybe we should just go back to my place." Bella muttered, utterly embarrassed.
"No way, I eat skinny blonde bitches like that for breakfast." I grinned, putting an arm around Bella's shoulder. She smiled, but darker clouds still loomed in her eyes. I think we spent more time deciding who would sit where than it actually took to drive to La Push. There was 12 people and 9 seats. Tyler wanted me to sit in the back with him, which Lauren outwardly objected the three seats were too small and could only fit two people. Later there would be enough room for Angela and another boy I had forgotten the name of, but I knew originally she had just not wanted me specifically back there. It didn't take much time either that she was trying to piss her territory on Tyler. Oh the young love of teenagers is so easily unraveled. If only boys weren't so blind. Tyler said there was enough room for me and Bella upfront with him, but from Bella's nervous glances someone had already staked their claim on him. We ended up sharing one of the bucket seats in the middle of the van so that Jessica could sit up front with him. Other children littered the floor. This seemed an arrangement that everyone could accept though without taking out the claws.
"So I may have to come to the rez more often." Tyler grinned, leaning over our seat. I placed a hand at the neck of my wife beater, figuring he could probably see clear down my shirt otherwise.
"Only to see if the other rez girls like Sonny. Trust me, she is one in a million." Mike smiled, turning his head back towards us. The girl named Jessica seemed almost to pout, unzipping her sweatshirt a little more to try and grab his attention back. Ah, so he was her territorial pissing. Bella looked at herself self-conciously. Had something changed since I last looked in the mirror this morning? I couldn't catch the eye of boy on my reservation, but I had every white boy in Forks drooling over my scent. I slipped on Jacob's battered sweatshirt, zipping it up to the neck.
"Doesn't Bella look gorgeous this morning?" I interupted, Bella looked back at me wearily as if I were doing it out of cruelity.
"No, she looks gorgeous every day." Mike smiled warmly, turning back to the road.
"Your so dumb." Bella muttered, elbowing me in the ribs. Her cheeks were burning, but I could make out a faint smiled traced on her lips.
Once we were at the beach, the people went off into their own little clicks. At last finally felt safe enough to shed the sweatshirt, beads of sweat were already stinging my eyes. Some of the boys had started a fire. Mike kept throwing in drift woods which spurted green flames, his disappointment obvious when Bella wasn't that impressed. It was just an effect of the salt! Tyler and Lauren shared the ear buds of an IPod. Some of the other boys were wresteling, the girl who seemed so meek before just sat by the fire even more so silently while tracing pictures in the sand with her feet. I stood alone by the shore, letting the waves lick at my ankles.
"You don't want to play with them anymore?" I chuckled as Bella made her way through the sand towards me.
"They don't play nice. The loud mouth, the overbearing flirt, and best of all the bitch. Fun, fun." Bella sighed dryly as she looked out across the ocean by my side. My laugh was equally as dry. I knew the pickings were slim, but at the same time I wanted to shake her. These are your frieds, they are dumb simpley by man's way! You weren'y meant to flock to the half wolves or vampires.
"You mean you weren't wooed by Mike's feeble magic tricks?" I grinned tauntingly.
"I might had if I hadn't taken basic 5th grade chemistry concepts."
"Well just wait til you see the poo dollar."
"The poo dollar?" I was about to explain it to her when there was a meek little hello on my other side. Tiny Angela stood by us, purposely looking away as if we would caste her out as well.
"You haven't fallen for the poo dollar have you?" I smiled down at her.
"No, I do know the idiotic tactics these small town jocks go to." One had to listen to catch the joke because Angela spoke it so shyly. I laughed more than I originally would have just to show Angela she was welcomed. Her face glowed, she even grinned.
"What exactly is the poo dollar?" Bella turned to Angela. As Angela explained, I saw this as the one that could save Bella from our world. As far as I could tell Angela seemed human enough. No ghost, no mermaid, most importantly of all she wasn't a vampire. The only possible thing Angela could be was an angel, but I can hardly think of what damage a holy force could do onto a human.
"That is so dumb... Just why would you do that?" Bella was completely flabberghasted. Angela shrugged silently, but her face was still glowing.
"Why do half the people here do what they do? Hey have either of you dove off those cliffs before?" Off to the right there was a cove with a good 15 feet of cliff towering over it.
"Now that is equally as dumb as the poo dollar." Bella giggled.
"Oh it is not. I have been doing it since I was a little kid. It's really not that hard, the trick is just to stare straight ahead so you don't get vertigo. Just start out low so that it is more like you are flying and for a moment you are." I was stancing myself low on the wet sand.
"And after that moment?" Bella grinned down at me.
"Then this." I smile mechanically, springing myself upright onto Bella's back, knocking her into the shallow ocean with me.
"Oh I am telling Charlie on you. I could have drowned for all you know or been washed out to sea. In fact I could have the brain eating bacteria or swallowed some sort of parasite." Bella stuck her tongue out at me playfully, pushing splashes of water towards me. Angela stood on the shore, laughing at us.
"Now why weren't we invited to this little shindig?" Mike yelled, throwing his shirt off as he ran towards us. A couple of the other unidentified boys came chasing after him. It was hardly fun attacking your best friend in the water when a bunch of hormone imbalanced teenage boys watching you like pieces of meet. Tyler was being forced back by Lauren with her talons digging into his arm. He unwillingly sat back down, but his attention was hardly on Lauren. When I looked back towards the shore, I noticed a few more bodies then originally counted for were standing on the beach. The boys had taken notice too, turning towards the shore.
"Who are they?" Angela whispered nervously, wading out to mid calf deep.
"Hey Sonny, going for the white meat now?" One of the new boys called. Even though the salt blurred my vision, it was unmistakeabley Sam.
"Hardly." I grunted as a few of the boys walked out to the ocean. Most still lingered back on shore; but Sam, Simon, and another newly changed boy by the name of Waylon.
"Hey isn't that the hot one from the year book you showed me?" Bella giggled as she pointed to to Simon, I nudged her in the ribs.
"Whats up bro?" Mike extended a hand out to the trio of russet boy. They just stared at him as if he was mentally incopatent.
"Are you serious?" Waylon cracked out.
"Oh shut up." Sam muttered and Waylon instantly slammed his mouth shut. I wouldn't be surprised if he had broken a few teeth in the process.
"Well this is Bella, Angela and Mike. Sam if the arrogant one, Simon, and the shrimp is Waylon. I introduced. Waylon started to object, but a dark look from Sam and he instantly silenced himself.
"Do you have a staring problem?" Simon approached Mike hostily when he caught him watching me.
"No, no problem." Mike gulped nervously, trying to play it off as a joke.
"Then I suggest you get your eyes checked." Simon growled.
"Erm Bella, I am going to go back to the fire." You should have seen how quickly Mike fled, even Bella chuckled softly. I think Bella and Angela were able to relax when they saw Sam laugh and Simon's features soften.
"White boys can't jump, but they sure as hell can run." Sam joked whole heartedly.
"You guys are asses, you scared all the children." I teased.
"Oh please, do we scare you?" Simon grinned. Bella smiled nervously, but the other two looked like they were about to have a nervous break down. Sam mumbled something to Simon in native tongue and he sniggered gentely. I heard Jessica ask Angela what they were doing, but Angela was paralyzed. Simon turned his head around and screamed Boo! Jessice jumped behind Angela, both screamng shrilly. Bella flinched, but joined in the laughter as the boys laughed at her expense.
"Be nice. No wonder no one wants to come to the rez anymore, they hear about all the nutjobs around here." I chuckled, wraping my arm around Bella's shoulder.
"Isn't that the Simon kid from the year book you showed me?" Bella grinned, nudging me in the sides. I supressed laughter and nodded curtly. Simon had looked better with longer hair, but the buzz cut made him look more ruggad as you could see each rigid feature in his face. Sam was decent looking too, he wore cut off jeans with no shirt that showed off his abs more, but he would always have such a baby pudge face. Waylon was scrawny standing next to the other two boys, but each arm that poked out from his oversized t shirt shown straining sinew and prominate veins under a russet sheet of flesh. His face was long with teeth that angeled out, but something about 6 pack abs make all flaws go away.
"I think he likes you." Bella grinned.
"Oh shut up. He has seen me a million times with no inclination. My bet is on you." I whispered back.
"He isn't looking at me like he is at you... He loves you." Bella taunted in a shushed tone.
"Shut up!" I knew Simon could hear us, his cheeks were burning a soft pink and he was no longer looking our direction.
"What is going on?" Jessica raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing." We both answered in unison and then laughed at each other. We started walking back towards the camp fire when Waylon turned around smoothly to introduce himself to Bella. Bella smiled meekly and shook his hand. If only she could see what he was thinking of her.
"Oh back off my friend Waylon, you have no chance." I laughed. Waylon's face flushed before burning red.
"I was exuting this emotion called kindness. I know it is foriegn to you." Waylon tried to hit back.
"Yeah well go be 'kind' to someone else." I pushed him back into the sand forcefully. When we approached the fire, you could see the tenseness. Obviously Mike had told the others about the slightly hostile introduction. There were a couple of other faces around the fire besides the ones we came with.
"What are you doing here?" I grinned, walking over to Jacob.
"Simon said I could." His grin was crooked as he mock whined. I laughed, hitting him outside the head lightly. Bella waved awkwardly not a foot away
"This is my little brother Jacob." I nodded back to her so she wasn't abandoned in a state of confusion.
"Who is that?" Jacob whispered as Bella walked over to us. I could tell hsi eyes were lingering on her.
"She is my friend, no!" I muttered, hitting him on the forehead.
"I wasn't going to do nothing!" Jacob whined. I glared down at him, I knew exactly what he was thinking. And NO! I couldn't even imagine my little baby brother being interested in any girl, let alone my best friend. So double NO!
"Hi, I am Bella." She smiled warmly, extending her hand.
"I don't know if you want to touch him, it may give an erection." I playfully pushed her hand away.
"Sonny, God!" Jacob cried out in embarrassment, his cheeks burning. All the other rez boys roared in laughter.
"Be nice to your brother." Bella chuckled softly, hitting me in the shoulder and took a seat next to Jacob. He seemed almost in a state of shock when she did this.
"How old are you?" Bella asked, she seemed shocked that he was only 14. Fourteen and a half, Jacob corrected. Jacob still ha dhis baby fat, but he had grown since the summer and one could see the sinew that would take over his flabby body once puberty hit. In fact, both of them began talking quite deeply. I tried to throw in a word every once in a while, but it typically went ignored. What was happening between them? Bella certainly wouldn't go for a younger guy, let alone my brother. I wasn't even paying attention to when someone had decided something about splitting up.
My name rang sharply in mind, drowing out all thoughts. I looked over and Sam was watching me carefully.
"Why don't you come into town with us?" Sam called across the way. Mike, Jessica, Simon, and a couple other boys were already gathered around him. Waylon and Angela with a few others were going to check out the tide pools. Tyler had wanted to go into town as well, but Lauren had entangled him into staying by the fire with her.
"Yeah why don't we take a walk along the ocean?" Bella offered to Jacob. He seemed stunned... Shocked. Was a girl seriously paying attention to him?
"Yeah that sounds good, why don't I go with you guys?" I butted in, clear disappointment read on both of their faces but I knew neither would object. Why did Bella want to get him alone. I could tell how she was sitting with her legs crossed and chest thrusted forward that she was flirting with him... Or trying to atleast. She couldn't be interested in my brother... Could she?
"Oh come one Sonny, we need you to show us something?" Sam grinned.
"Show you what?" I was starting to get irritated, but the smile had already faded from Sam before he started talking telepathicly to me.
'Look around you. All these boys will come into town if you do.' Sam pushed into my head. As much as I hated it, I was being drooled over like a hamburger fresh off the grill. For some other odd reason when it wasn't tourist season, Sam took it as his official job to try to get outsiders to come into town to look around the shops aka buy some "real authentic Indian souveniers". I don't if being alpha of the pack had inflated his ego or he had nothing better to do since he didn't hold a job. Simon was looking in, sucking deep breaths through his flared nostrils as if he was going to kill all of them. It wasn't like he could be mad at them for being horn dogs, maybe just all the lovely memories of chili pickers and such.
"Jacob, don't say anything." I hesitated before walking over to the pack. Jacob laughed awkwardly as I walked away.
To get into the tourist part of town from the beach there was a trail only about 10 ft long that took you over a hill. I started talking to one of the boys I didn't know who had approached me to keep myself thinking about Bella and Jacob. I laughed at his jokes and smiled at his feeble attempts to flirt. God, what the hell were Jacob and Bella doing?
"Here let me help you." Simon had let himself fall behind in the line so he could help me over a small valley of mud.
"I can honestly do it myself..." I protested. The kid I had been talking to rushed forward, saying he could help me but he stepped right into the mud and it sucked his leg in, pulling him face first into the wet earth. Simon seemed overly annoyed when he jerked the kid out of the mud by the collar of his shirt.
"I think as you have observed it is deeper than it appears." Simon eyed the kid wearily whoes face was already beet red.
"Don't worry, I am a big girl now." I snickered.
"Well come on just humor me." Simon smirked, waving me towards him.
"You obviously haven't gotten your head checked like I recommended." I rolled my eyes, but allowed him to help me. He seemed almost scared to touch me by the way his hands trembeled and he diverted his eyes before holding me by the waist and lifting me over onto the other side. I think the kid lost hope of the chance he thought he had with me the moment Simon touched me. He had already left to catch up with the others.
"You don't have to be so nice to me." I started once I saw the others were already clear of the woods.
"Am I really acting that strange?" Simon still kept his head bowed as he walked along side me.
"Opening doors for me is a far cry from a few days ago where when any mention of my name was followed by venom in your mouth." I joked, but Simon didn't seem to find humor in it.
"Well I guess maybe I am just seeing things differntly now." Simon began to chew on his bottom lip as he squinted up at the sun. The sun was already high in the sky. For mortals this might have been pleasant, but for a wolf it meant the humidity choked you.
"You don't need to be differnt with me. I am a tough girl, I don't need your kindness or pity."
"I don't pity you. I just think that most people in this world don't recieve the kindness deserve." Simon smiled softly and opened the shop door for me.
"Yeah I asked Edward Cullen to come too, but I am glad he didn't." Bella sucked in a deep breath as she tried to redirect the conversation in the way she wanted it as she walked along the beach with Jacob.
"Are you two dating?" Jacob scowled, his hopes immeadiately plumuted back to earth.
"Oh, no! Not at all. It was just wierd how he reacted when I mentioned the name and then Sam said that they don't come here." Yes, she was slowly reeling Jacob in. She knew she couldn't have asked me about it since I seemed to hold the Cullen's with such disdain and now it appeared most of the others did.
"Well, Sam is kind of a prick." Jacob mumbled, kicking his feet through the sand.
"It wasn't just him though, Simon too. Simon seems like a pretty good guy." Bella egged on. Just take the friggin bait already!
"Yeah he is pretty cool... I guess I can tell you it is more then the Cullen's don't come here. They aren't allowed here."
"But why aren't they allowed here?"
"I think this is what Sonny meant by don't say anything." Jacob thought tenatively to himself, but one smile from Bella and he was willing to give anything he could offer.
"Can you keep a secret? I really shouldn't be telling you this, I could get in big trouble for this. I mean it is against tribal law to tell you what I am about to tell you." The fear had left Jacob and was replaced by the thrill of danger.
"It will stay here with me." Bella crossed her heart, taking a step closer to Jacob.
"Well it is actually an old Quilette legend passed down from my forefathers... You are going to have to go out on a limb with me though. In our history we have many stories, but the story about the Cold Ones is the one that sticks out in mind." Jacob smiled to himself.
"The Cold Ones?" Bella smiled sweetly, setteling herself down in the sand to try to keep Jacob enthralled.
"I guess we should begin with that my people use to change into a wolf form... Yeah I know o0o0 werewolves. All the warriors had this power to better communicate with each other and defend our people. The Cold Ones came here after the whiteman had already come here, but there still wasn't many in this area. Most still resided on the east coast and in California, but there was still a good many here. But amoung the white people they had what they call an epedemic. People were found dead with all the blood drained from them, they thought it to be Scarlet Fever. But the tribes knew it to be something else. Our people were being drained of their blood, but it was no sickness. These phantom like creatures were thought to be coming and drinking humans dry, I guess kind of like your modern day vampire... But they were so cold. You could feel it radiating off them. My great grandfather was chief of our tribe at the time and it was discovered that there were Cold Ones on our land. They swore to us that they were considered vegetarians of their kind, only drinking animal blood. Quilette warriors wanted to kill the Cold Ones, but my grandfather made a treaty with them. They were not allowed to cross borders into our land and could not transform anymore humans into vampires. The Cullen's were the Cold Ones found on our land."
"So what, those were the Cullen's great grandparents as well?" Bella asked.
"No, it is thought to be the same Cullen's." Bella felt her hair pull tight against her skin when she heard that.
"I am really bad at story telling, you would have to hear my dad tell it for the dramatic effect. He scared me and my youngest sister crapless when we were little." Jacob chuckled in spite of myself.
"No, you are really good. Look I have goosebumps." Bella held out her arm, still feeling the story haunting her. This seemed to please Jacob as he smiled slightly to himself.
"I mean it's not like the story is true or anything. My forefathers thought the world was carried on the back of a turtle. Just don't tell anyone. It violates the treaty if any of us tell it outside the rez."
"It is a good story." Bella's smile was strained, shaking still from the chills. How could it have been the same Cullen's that made the treaty? It must have been added just for the late night story effect to scare all the little kids sleepless. It couldn't have been the same Cullen's.
"We are back!" I yelled loudly, intending to break up Jacob and Bella. I saw both of them jump, but somehow I knew the damage had already been done. I closed off my mind because I didn't want to know what had been said, but I knew it wasn't only Edward that I had to worry about leading Bella to the Cullen's secret.
Anticipation was tearing at Bella's chest. She found herself almost furious with how long it was taking her computer to start itself up. She knew that the websites weren't going anywhere soon, but she had to know now... For her sanity atleast! She could hear Jacob whispering about the Cold Ones through the woods just outside her window. His playful laughter as he told her not to tell anyone, he felt it was a joke. Almost mocking it, but he didn't know what she knew.
The loading bar seemed to inch by as she tried to google vampires. Had Charlie seriousy never heard of atleast DSL? Bella really didn't know where to begin. Naturally such a vague word that has been used for over a millineum and the villian of countless movies is bound to come up with millions of results. One site looked helpful, it was kind of like a dictionary; Vampirez A-Z. Luckily the site didn't take too long to load, but honestly where to begin? Once Bella got to Dracula her eyes were already begining to blur. Many things were interesting, but not much of it was helping. Sure the Bloody Baroness of Hungary was an interesting piece of history and the Orthodox church took an interesting stand against Catholisism calling their saints vampires, but thats all it was. Interesting.
Bella was to the point where she was only going to look at the next page and if there was nothing she was going to turn of the computer. None of these were helping her. She was no longer reading the whole pages, just skimming for anything that sounded recognizable to the Cullens. Her eyes stopped towards the bottom of the page. Nelapsi of Czechoslovakia. Walking corpses that fed on the blood of humans and animals. One of the most strongest creatures in the world with supernatural speed and strength. They were said to have two hearts and two souls which tormented them to kill another being. They were suppose to be corpses of suicide victims or murderers that were being punished by hell by not being able to die. Their red eyes didn't make sense to Bella though. This was interesting, but atleast it was getting closer. This gave Bella a new burst of energy to keep searching, now she had to know. She was given a peak to something true around her, now she needed the truth. Bella had taken out a notebook and began scribbiling down notes to herself. She underlined Stregoni Benefici. They were suppose to be vampires on the side of goodness and mortal enemy of other vampires. Bella smiled to herself knowing that this had to be true... If he was a vampire atleast. No Edward wasn't the bad guy. He just couldn't be. Another that caught her eye was Varacolaci. They had pale cold skin and had the ability to control eclipses. Everything had maybe one attribute or some seemingly similarity. But none of them were right! There were no teenage beautifuly pale boys who dazzled everyone around them with changing amber eyes and electric shocks. Was that really too much to ask for? Just give her something! She hit the computer desk with her fists. The force made the screen scroll down. Bella almost laughed at herself. Look at where a silly suspicion with no evidence had gotten her, thinking kids in her class were vampires and physically abusing computers. If only Sonny was here, she would be getting a kick out of this. Bella acting on unlevel headed. Bella looked up to turn of her computer when one last thing at the bottom of the page caught her eye. She sucked in a painful breath, this was too much of a coincidence.
Volkodlak of Slovenia, linked to various werewolf legends. A short discription with no bibliography or any more details about these legends. Bella copied and pasted this to Google. This had to it, this was too coincidential. Once again it was taking all too long for Bella.
"What are you doing? You look like you have seen a ghost." I smirked, leaning in her doorway. Bella began hearing her heartbeat thudding in her ears as she slowly swiveled around to see me. Victory had been so close. Bella began fumbeling around, desperately trying to shut down the computer or pull up another window but the computer was frozen.
"Vampires? You didn't happen to be looking up the Cold Ones were you?" I smiled softly, swooping over Bella's shoulder to read the screen.
"You scared me. I thought you went home." Bella was clutching her chest, for some reason she felt like she had been caught sticky handed masturbating. For some reason it felt like no one else could know about her little theory.
"I forgot my bag, Charlie told me to go on up... You should know that Jacob's little story was just that, a story. It has nothing to do with the Cullen's, just told that way to frighten the children; make it seem more realistic. Our legends are dying and the youth don't care, we have to make it seem real to them for them to remember." I said smoothly, sitting down on her bed.
"But why the Cullen's? Why aren't they allowed on the reservation?"
"You don't have to be a vampire to be dangerous." I had my head bowed, but I still looked up at her. Bella bit her tongue to fight the urge to ask why. She had a feeling Sonny wouldn't be able to answer or she herself wouldn't want to know the answer.
"Vampires and werewolves... These are all fantasy. In the real world Prince Charming gets killed and Sleeping Beauty lies forever in a coma. Snow White perhaps never existed at all. In the real world little girls get hurt. You need to forget about Edward, Bella." I warned, slinging my bag over one shoulder. Bella couldn't look at me anymore, her cheeks were burning. She knew there was something more then what I was saying.
"Yes... This is all pretty dumb." Bella muttered under her breath, but she nodded to me. She knew she couldn't leave Edward now though and I knew she couldn't either.
