Oh, wow. I agree with the last part especially. I think fans get pissed about the fact that their awesome little secret is no longer just that, so all of a sudden, the band has 'Sol Out'. Although, I mean, when the general quality of the music is gone and they've gone from unique, or whatever quality that made them attractive to the listener to crap, only then is it safe to say that the band has 'Sold OUt'. AND even then, they might come back and surprised the fans with something new and interesting.

I agree with beacatasrophe down there. This was more of an informative article than a persuasive. And for those of you that are weary of "selling out" articles rising repeatedly, we might want to take into consideration that this is a topic that evokes some alarm out of fans. People would not write about a topic unless they were motivated enough by observations of others.

As for the subject of selling out itself...
I'm not quite sure where I should fall in with this. Being in a band is a career, therefore you need money. But I will say that I have seen some bands (of which I will not name) have gone out of hand by drowning in mainstream. I honestly doubt that the band members themselves want to "sell out", but once you're caught in tight buisness, it's hard to get out, and get clean.

But I'm all for the music. If I don't like it, I don't listen to it. If I like it, I listen to it. Simple as that.

What you're saying is true. They want to be a musician in life, if they make money how is selling out? It's a job along with a passion.

she doesn't need to state her argument, considering the fact that this was more informative than persuasive. because im guessing a bunch of people reading this are no more than beginners reading for their own pleasure. give it a break, this is a good article. i can see where she is coming from.

once again a tragic case of people not reading what i wrote.

im shutting people up on calling people sell outs
im sick of it just as much as you are.

my argument is there has been hardly any sell outs in awhile, with a few exceptions.
its simply just opinion of a jealous fan who doesnt want their band being well known.

What is up with these sell out articles?? Who cares if a band is a sell out? As long as you like them, do what you will.

I, as a musician, say all musicians/bands are sell outs because we sell our music for money. That's just the way it goes. Seriously. More fans means more money. More money means better equipment and travel expenses to play gigs and to get even more fans/money. And the circle continues. Musicians are like prostitutes, except we sell our music. End of discussion.

P.S. Screw me for being late to comment this. =P

i agree with you 100%. so many people are saying All Time Low is selling out, but they are not. but you have to admit, some of those girls at their shows are SUPER annoying. especially the ones that just wanna fuck alex. but hey, i cant really blame em hahahaha. but a big part of it is, just seeing a band that uve known for so long grow up and people actually find out about them and thinking they are new when they arent, its KIND of disappointing in a way, cuz they used to be your little band that you loved, then all of a sudden everyone is singing their single thats not even as good as their other songs. its not really selling out but i got that feeling with All Time Low. ive been with them since the beginning, but i hate it when i hear people singing dear maria or poppin champagne. those arent even their best songs at all. their old stuff is way better. but w/e. ILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM, no matter what :D <3333

BUT I DONT THINK THEY ARE.
THATS WHY I WROTE THIS.

PERSONALLY THE ONLY SELL OUT IVE SEEN IN AWHILE HAS BEEN FALL OUT BOY

WE ARE ALL FAMILIAR WITH IT BECAUSE WE LISTEN TO ALL THE BANDS ACCUSED.

ID LIKE TO NOTE ALSO.
IM TALKING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I WANT IT TO BE SEEN.
NOT BECAUSE IM ANGRY

NOTE TO YOU ALL!
IM NOT SAYING ANY BAND IS A SELL OUT, OR CALLING ANYONE A SELL OUT.

IM CALLING OUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO CLAIM BANDS ARE SELL OUTS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE CLEARLY JUST ADVANCING THEIR MUSICAL CAREERS

I USED THIS AS AN ARTICLE TO BECOME A MUSIC WRITER FOR MY SCHOOL'S NEWSPAPER.

MY POINT I WAS TRYING TO GET ACROSS WAS IN SHORT.
BANDS ARENT SELL OUTS FOR TRYING TO BE SUCCESSFUL, AND SO MANY PEOPLE MISS USE THE WORD.

I THANK THOSE WHO UNDERSTOOD MY POINT

Man, bands keep giving their tours weirder and weirder names. I don't think anyone will ever beat Creature Feature's "The Creature From The Black Lagoon's Tiki Beach Party Zombie Werewolf Mai-Tai Extravaganza Featuring The Mummy's Coconut Dracula BBQ Luau And Frankenstein Was There Too Tour" though.

Also, I agree with Lacey Mosely. So what if someone thinks a band has sold out? Whether they have or not, the important thing is that you still enjoy their music. And if you don't? Seriously, either move on or just keep listening to the older stuff that got you into them in the first place.

Frankly, I'm sick of articles, talking about sell outs, whether postively or negatively. It's old news, people, and frankly, retarded. Bands don't sell out. They change direction. And if you hate the new record, slip in the old one, and stop bitching. Jesus.

I also how everyone is like "No offense, No offense." Stop apologizing for your opinion. Offend someone once in a while, stand up for yourself, grab your balls and show them off.

Selling out is a term used when you run out of an item at a store. D: It's horrible!

I totally agree with you. People love to sling the term "sell-outs" around, just because the band now doesn't feel personal to them. It gets harder for a band to keep "in touch" with their fans, if that fanbase is constantly growing. People feel neglected. What people have to realize, is that being in a band takes a lot of time, and being GOOD at what you do, deserves as much recognition as you can get. :] Thanks for writing such a great article.

I think 'selling out' is becoming everything you're against.
Good Charlotte is a great example.
All Time Low hasn't sold out. Wtf.
