i'd have rather learned knitting from an actual person, i might have continued doing it. the book is harder to learn from and downright confusing for complex stitches. funny thing though, i learned crochet from a book and i am pretty damn good at it XD. the only thing i would knit is a scarf now.
and if you do mess up you have to start all over again. i don't care for those quick fixes because you have to take time to learn those too. that annoys me to no end. not very relaxing.
of course i'm biased because i crochet XD.
but neither knitting or crochet is for "old" people.
nice article
I watched my girlfriend knit for about two months before picking up a pair of needles and actually making something that didn't look like a total disaster. It's so much easier to learn it from someone else than to learn it online or from a book.
Are you on Ravelry? It's awesome. There's about a billion wristwarmers and coats I want.
Great article, I love the original topic ^.^
Getting the right tension is how I suffer in nearly all material crafts, but I have crocheted before nonetheless. Its difficultly depends on (for me) getting the tension, AND the material that you're crocheting with: from wool that's beginner, to so very fine shreds of silk.
But yeah, I''d glad that knitting has passed on to this generation, and has even developed :D
Thanks for the comments, everyone <(^^,)>
It's great that there are so many cool people who knit =]
And to those of you who crochet: awesome! Is it hard? I've never tried it!
My sister calls me strangly old fashioned I get excited about holding hands, yell at children for being to loud, and I knitt. Lol I think somehow my mentality got reversed cause I have big plans for when Im old to go bungie jumping and other such extreame activities! KNITTING RULES!!
I love knitting :)
...I hate knitting class (Yes, we have a knitting class at my school.)
I'm currently knitting a simple scarf for one of my friends :)
I've never tried knitting, but it was popular in elementary school with a bunch of girls in my class. Me, being a tomboy, never thought of even trying it.
Your article was good, but this... kind of... shocked me, I suppose. "It’s something I’d rather do than go out, get drunk and end up licking my own vomit off of the pavement!" That statement makes me think that you're saying that people who don't knit have nothing better to do than go out and get drunk.
