Facebook is giving you an option, you can use their chat with the monitoring, or not use it at all. What's the problem with them seeing your face book chat? It's not like you will ever know these people, and if its something you want to keep private, use a phone or talk to them in person. If it's going to save at least one person a year from a situation like that, that's a good enough reason to keep it!

honestly, I think this is s terrible idea. you can't protect everyone from everything, they have to use their own judgement. while it may be a good idea to try to protect underage girls from getting molested, monitoring underage drinking? This is a waste of time. Ultimately people will catch on and just not talk about it on facebook. it's not going to help anything and will kill the site.

I don't think it's bad, especially the bullying part, but I guess the worry is if Facebook has the right to monitor that, what's to stop your phone company from screening text messages and turning you into the cops if you text someone about a bag of weed.

"but some argue the software could monitor other illicit activity such as recreational drug use, underage drinking, bullying and threats of violence."

    Oh. I guess that's ... bad?

    Shifty

I don't see the issue with that.

And I never expect to have privacy online.

But this is really interesting. I didn't know that they even monitored chats.
