    @ cleopatra.
Thank you so much for your comment! Even if it is from a (respected) Batman foe ;)

    smh @ the below comments...

you know, the funny thing about this is i clicked on this though i completely & utterly hate superman. i think he has no definition as a superhero & is completely flawless which just irks me being that he gives off a hardcore mary sue vibe. & every movie i've seen is just a repeat of each one that was made prior, just a new hunk w/ a new problem but w/ a hot bod though it's obvious he's clark kent w/ or w/o the goddamn getup. like dude *eye rolls super hard*

but even past my opinion, i wanted to give this a read bc i do like the perspective of superman fans.

if im being honest, superman vs. batman would be the first dc heroes i'd talk about under any circumstance bc they're so well known. + it seems everyone's going @ it w/ e/o when it comes down to such a thing. & of course im sitting here as a hardcore batman fan (not foaming @ the mouth regarding your opinion of course)
    Quote
Let's get one thing straight here, guys. Batman is a hero – he is a rich vigilante with a number of people helping him bring about justice to the streets of Gotham. He is not a superhero, because he has no out-of-this-world powers to speak of.
you can imagine i burst out laughing reading this bc yes, as a batman fanatic, ik he's a rich vigilante w/ a # of people helping him bring about justice to gotham & he's not under any circumstance a a superhero, just a hero. he's smart, he has a need to protect & serve, he's completely & utterly flawed & he's christian bale (bc fuck ben affleck in that superman vs. batman bullshit. what a turn off). & you know what? i love that about batman.

you won me over (as a respected foe) w/ this:
    Quote
I like to argue that this weakness is actually what makes him relatable. All humans experience all of the types of Kyrptonite in emotional form at some point in their lives: blue/gold kryptonite is essentially anything that strips us of our power and humanity, such as authority figures or an atrocious tragedy or a personal violation; red kryptonite is alcohol or drugs, relieving us of our inhibitions and revealing the darker realms of our conscious; silver kryptonite is a manifesting anxiety that all people experience at all times about the past, other people, the future; black kryptonite is those moments in life where you argue with yourself over issues and nuances, weighing the good and the bad, and trying to decide who you really are; and green kryptonite is anything that makes us weak, from emotion to illness to allergy to love.
bc WOW, never respected a superman nut like this before. mad kudos to you for that paragraph. it got me nodding along to your viewpoints of his weaknesses & how we as people could relate to him. i see that's a thing, actually. i relate to my batman babe w/ his flaws & weaknesses, but more so bc he's just an ordinary guy in some sense, you know what i mean? i keep bringing up batman. my bad, but your love for superman is my love for the bat-bae.

in short, i will say that i loved your closing sentence. i see it & agree w/ it COMPLETELY. this was a super cool opinion piece & i loved every bit of it.

"I was reading these comments and laughing cause people's heads are blowing up over this. I guess people skipped the parts such as, 'there are many reasons why I believe superman is the best superhero.'"
First of all you make the assumption that people like me are getting infuriated over this article, when that's merely incorrect. Simply criticizing and attempting to start a genuine debate does not imply anger.
Secondly, I did not skip over "there are many reasons why I believe superman is the best superhero." I completely respect that the writer of this article believes Superman to be the best superhero, but I wish to refute her arguments.
You probably think of this response to your comment as a "hate message" of some sort or a message out of anger, and although it might be, most of it is for the art of debate.
"But as cool as this article is, my favorite superhero is still Captain America. But it isn't because of a anything logical."
Yes, but that is not the only illogical process in your thoughts.

You disappoint me. Batman is noted as a superhero in the Batman comics (Fleisher, Michael L. The Encyclopedia of Comic Book Heroes Volume 1 Batman Collier Books 1976 ISBN 0-02-080090-8 p. 31) because of the fact that he is the strongest human on the planet and in addition, the mental peak of all humans. Being a superhero doesn't require "out the world" powers, but simply extraordinary talents.

Yes but articles are supposed to be backed up by actual fact and sources, at least the Mibba ones are. Opinions are for blogs. At least I'm pretty sure that's what a mod said.

He is not a superhero, because he has no out-of-this-world powers to speak of. This has always been my own opinion of Batman, I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that XD

It's an opinion about a fictional superhero, not a scientific paper.

Why do they need to "calm down", they were just giving some criticism. This is an article after all.

Uhm, thanks for all of the comments, guys.

I understand that, as a relatively serious writing site that takes the idea of articles quite literally, I do have to mention that this is no more than an opinion piece. The whole 'Superman is the best superhero ever' thing is in my opinion. I apologise in the initial paragraph (the preface that states it is opinion and not fact) for any disgreement or offense you may feel at my postulating. It is no more than an articulation of my own thoughts that have been buzzed around for a while. It is not to be taken as gospel.

I apologise again if you disagree.

"He has flaws, but they are not akin to some of the flaws of others. I personally like superheroes, or anti-heroes like Jesse Custer and Laurie Jupiter aka Silk Spectre 2; the humans who take it upon themselves to fight for something. Just read Preacher, Watchmen, The Walking Dead or even the X-Men (which in my opinion is a much better take on racial discrimination) and you'll get characters which are more human, and namely don't have muscled physiques, laser beam eyes, male model faces."
Okay, this article is talking about Superheroes, not heroes, not antiheroes as you mention. When you mention people like Jesse Custer and Silk Spectre 2 you say they are the humans that take it upon themselves to fight for something...come on, Superman does that as well, and we're talking more on superhumans than humans.
I found this hilarious, you mention X-Men and after you say you'll get characters which are more human, and don't have laser beam eyes OMG CYCLOPS. But yeah no I get what you're saying, haha.

"and also mention that you didn't explain the ties between Superman's fear of xenophobic humans and creators Joey Siegel and Joe Shuster's own experiences with anti-semitism during their lives."
What purpose does mentioning "the ties between Superman's fear of xenophobic humans and creators Joey Siegel and Joe Shuster's own experiences with anti-semitism during their lives" do to prove the writer's point? If your answer is, "to show relatablility of Superman to humans" I'd say that proving relatability to humans would demand proving relatability to humans in general, and I hope not every human hates Jews...

"There is no definitive best superhero, and there never will be, everyone finds their own heroes."
Oh I beg to differ... there isn't a set standard for what the "best" superhero is, or at least not that I know of, but oh if you can formulate burdens to prove that would make a superhero the "best" and you argue it pretty damn well, hey

WTF... ARE WE SUPPOSED TO PROVE SUPERMAN RELATABLE TO ANIMALS AS WELL? HAHAHA THIS SENTENCE, I can't even..
