I have all those symptoms. And I kinda feel sad all the time.
But if I go to my mom and say,"Mom,I think I'm depressed." She'll say,"Oh,you're just overreacting! You're not depressed!" Then she'll laugh at me.
We get free therapy in our insurance plan, but I hate therapists.
However,I do think I really need some help.
    What do I do?

I got depression last year. I have all of those symptoms. No, I have not contemplated suicied, but the Prozac/Fluoxetine has increased suicidal thoughts. What I hate about my depression is that I also have anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, which makes it far worse.
Thank you for a very informative article. :)

While reading this article, I noted that I had all the symptoms of depression, but personally I don't think I'm depressed. I just call it "my mood swings". Everyone else around me has noticed it, too, and i can't do anything else but apoligize to them...which only makes me feel worse.

Anyway, good article. I don't know if it's true for everyone...but it opened my eyes a little.

Great article. I have depression from mild sexual abuse when I was thirteen. My parents being divorced actually eases my depression. It doesn't help that my mam suffered depression. I go to my school councillor; I can tell by her face that she doesn't know if I'm improving or not. One day I'll turn up, completely emphatic, and a week later I'll turn up scanning the room for something pointed. I feel the anti-depressants my doctor prescribed haven't worked. I know Prozac takes up to four weeks to kick in - I've had them for a whole months now. I feel exactly the same. But, I only had one 20mg dose everyday, so maybe a stronger dose will alter the chemical reactions in my brain. I have all the symptoms mentioned in this article, and many more. But, I shut myself off from near enough everyone near enough all of the time. It's rare when people hear or see me nowadays.

It's not an illness actually. Doctors say that so they can put you on drugs that were specifically disigned to destroy you. My father is dying and I'm now messed up beyond recognition. How does anybody still believe this is true when so many people have gotten worse from antidepressents?

This was a very informative article, it provides people with a good outlook on what do do about depression in their own lives and describes the pros and cons of options to treat depression such as medication which is subjective to the person as u pointed out.

foals., Go get a life. Being bitchy is something nobody likes.

And by the way, they weren't doing anything to say/show or even make it seem as if they were proud of themselves having depression, it was a mere, "the article written is correct and i (who have had depression as this ARTICLE IS ABOUT) can say this is true.

Next time, don't bother commenting if it's not respectful.

I was really depressed when I was younger, and I remember when a question came up in school in health and the teacher said, "If you've ever been depressed please stand up." and I was the only one that did, ahaha. I was a scary kid from third grade to fifth, because my stepdad got abusive at my house. This article really enlightened me, and I'm glad you wrote it.

Decent article, I have depression as a result of an insane amount of stress, but I feel like therapy doesn't help. Neither does medication, I would rather feel the depression than have pills control my emotions. It helps me to write music :)

Right, I think there should be actions taken before somebody is put on medication.

yeah i know i have depression i spotted it out when i was 12 and traced it back when i was 10 (when it all started) and one thing i noticed was that i do get alot of headaches, stomaches, and backaches which is why my mom has been taking me to the doctor so much, but they say everything is "fine". i didnt know depression could do that. thanks :) also this is just my opinion but i think people who have depression shouldnt take pills, they need to heal themselves mentally, like what u suggested such as yoga and being outside more.
i pray to God every night before i go to sleep and i get bette bit by bit everyday
