I wonder if there are other forms of CI. Like, where the person doesn't feel pain as intensely as another person would, or where it takes someone longer to realize that they are in pain.

I saw an episode of House about a patient with CI. It was pretty interesting, and this was an interesting article.

This was very informative but I never knew much about it.
    Thank you for this post.

    It's not commonly spoken about
but it's great that it's finally being recognized as a problem.

Wow, I never knew it was possible to be completely unaffected by any sort of pain... to not register it at all... Very well written article. I know that I sometimes don't register pain as anything more than an unusual sensation, such as feeling a cut as tickly, and I know that this is kinda dangerous, like when I set my shoes on fire coz I didn't register the pain; I was standing by a bonfire, way too close, and a piece of cardboard under my shoes was alight, and pretty soon my untied shoelaces were too... But I didn't realise that it was possible to feel absolutely no pain, I mean the burning shoes hurt like fuck and i jumped into a bucket of water and out of the shoes XD

Actually... truth be told, I do blink a lot too! Weird... Pain is the most useful sense we have, and the lack of pain/discomfort is the feeling of contentment. I suppose it would be nice to never feel pain... though I wouldn't want CI... it's a shame more doctors don't know about it, I guess. I knew a boy once who said he didn't feel pain, I mean, once he hit head on a table so hard it cracked. Everyone was so worried he had concussion or brain damage and he just laughed coz he's cracked the table...

Amazing article. I watched a special on this, it's very heart breaking how children with this condition are put in harms way because they don't have the ability as we would to pull away from things such as a hot pan. They have no natural reflexes.
