I remember learning this in fifth grade music class.
My teacher was like, "you know all the nursery rhymes generally have a really dark meaning right?"
So she told us. We were learning about meanings of lyrics. xD

Jack and Jill? Ya, bout a drunk!
Jack was the town drunk and idiot and was beheaded, hense, Jack fell down and broke his crown, and Jill got sentenced after trying to protect him, and Jill came tumbling after! My fourth grade teacher told us this. I hate that ass :P

I've heard of that too, but never really thought it was all that creepy.
When you're being dragged around in and endless game of Ring Around the Rosie by twenty-something tireless 4 year olds, the last thing you're thinking is, "hey, this song is about the Black Death!"
    XD
    Cool article.

I've heard of this before. Ever since I was a kid and found out I started only singing it when I wanted to creep myself out, or creep out others. x]

This article is very well written, and a topic I liked reading on. [:
And very good job on giving all the versions.

xD I've never heard the modern day version. People here generally sing the original one. Idk why.

I've always thought that it's really creepy, 'cos my dad told me what it was actually about when I was really little, and then when I went to school it was full of kids singing about death. =/

    VERY good.
But you could have added that it was originally from Asia and traveling merchants heading to Europe brought it there.

    This was VERY good!

Yes, I've heard that. Other than the fact that not all of your statistics were true, this article was great and interesting.

It is morbid isn't it. But then again, anything can be sick and twisted. That one I agree was already morbid, but you CAN make anything evil.

I was told in school that 1/3 of Europe's population was wiped out.

I've never heard this 60% of the WORLD statistic.

My grandpa told me what that rhyme was about when I was around 7.

The Plague wasn't spread through being bitten by rodents, however, it was spread by being bitten by an infected flea, that was on rodents. But other than that, I really liked this article.
