This was exactly what I needed to read. It seems that I'm always reading about how your writing needs to be THIS way to be good and it's discouraging. That line "Only cowards need permission to write." Really hit me hard. I really enjoyed this article and it inspired me to start an idea that's been floating around in my head(: So thank you
Thanks guys. @First commenter: Anyone can write a book. They can even be close to illiterate and write royal crap. A book is a book. Doesn't mean I'd read it.
I completely agree; anyone can write a book, but not everyone can write a good book.
Truthfully, it's all about practice and passion.
I realized my talent more than seven years ago, but it took a while for me to love writing stories, and now I've written more than a hundred fanfiction, with original stories floating around in my head like skittish butterflies.
This article has pushed me to try harder, and I thank you for that. You're an amazing writer, and I hope you keep pushing the boundaries, too.^^
This is amazing. First I must say that I disagree with the person who commented before me. Anyone can write a book, I think. But just because they write one doesn't necessarily mean it's good. But everyone has the potential.
This article was exactly what I needed to hear (or read), to be honest. You have a nice way with words:
"If you enjoy the sugar sweetness of catching words off-guard and stringing them out to dry in sentences, then great."
I loved reading this. Halfway through, I was starting to think you wrote it specifically for me. This sentence especially:
"Only cowards need permission to write. They procrastinate because they are afraid of failure."
When I first started writing, and even years after I finished my first story, I refused to call myself a writer because I felt I was not worthy of the title. And now, I procrastinate because I'm afraid of failure. I just didn't realize it until I read this! So great job, really. Keep writing.
I disagree with one thing. Not everyone can write a book. Writing is a gift and a talent, and it should always be viewed as such. Some people, with all their wit and cleverness, still cannot do it.
