i swear 'vampires' aren't even real! If they were then I'd defibately be one, there soo cool (except the blood drinking part, that's just........werd, but oh well, im already weird so ....*shrugs*) lol
'Vampire' crimes are always the same, nowadays. Why is it that these 'vampires', rather than hide the fact that they're vampires (like pop culture vampires often do), blatantly admit that they're 'vampires'? Sounds like a case of wanting attention, though I'm sure it's much deeper than that.
Like people have stated, the obvious implications of this are serious drug use (although, I seriously doubt it's crack or even cocaine due to the nature of the attack and the intent behind it) or even just existing mental illness, such as something along the lines of schizophrenia. While mental illness doesn't usually produce criminal behavior, if you believe you're a vampire that needs to hurt people in order to survive, it would make sense.
Also, to the person who didn't think trying to drink someone's blood would be illegal? Seriously? It's assault (or battery, depending on where you live, but that's semantics) and assault/battery is against the law. It may not be clearly given as an example under the context of the law, but it fits the guidelines. He also broke into her house, which is another crime.
However, if it's drugs, he'll go to jail, but if he has a good lawyer that can use the M'Naghten rule effectively (no idea how a defense attorney wouldn't be able to use it effectively with this one if he tests clean for drugs), then he'll be sent to a psychiatric treatment center.
Wow... the media is quick to blame pop culture for his actions when really he's mentally unstable. I mean, maybe the depiction of vampirism in today's entertainment added fuel to his already burning fire, but I highly doubt it's entierly to blame for his actions. He obviously not in his right mind if 99% of audiences don't run around believing that they're ancient (and mythological) vampires.
I read about this on christwire.com a while ago but i thought the whole thing was made up...
It was understandable to think that though cz it had the same pictures at facts, except it said the guy who thought he was a vampire was danny worsnop from asking Alexandria xD
What in the hell is happening to the world?
There was another case of this kid getting mobbed by teenage girls because he thought he could get a girlfriend by throwing glitter on himself :3
v. I remember hearing about those two cases on the Discovery or History Channel.
Anyways, This article was well written and it never strayed from the initail idea, though people shouldn't have jumped to the conclusion that it was all hte media's fault that influenced his actions. LOL.
This type of legal case is no where near new. A teenager in Arkansas, I think it was, who played this old game called Vampire Masquerade or something of the like convinced himself and two or three others that they were they're characters. When his girl friend complained about her parents, he came over with the other followers, killed and drunk the blood of her parents, and they all were driving to the East coast when they were found and arrested. This was in the 90's.
In the 80's New York's underground had a reputation for "vampire" social clubs and meets. A police officer went into one of these clubs under-cover to investigate disapearances linked to the club and others like it. Something reportedly spoked her so bad she took herself off the case and two weeks later went missing after telling friends that men looking like the ones she saw at one of clubs were stalking her.
I could go farther back, but I think that proves enough. Some people obsess over ideas untill they become psycotic, just like any other crazy who might go out and shoot John Lennon. There isn't a surge in these types of murder cases, and there isn't a surge because of the popularity of the giant, glittering fairies from Twilight, the guy is just mentally unstable and for some reason connected to the idea of the vampire. There's nothing more to it.
I agree with Courtney Cyclothymia in the sense that maybe pop culture shouldn't be the thing to blame. :/ I remember at the beginning of last year, three kids in the city I live in attacked a man and drew blood. The three of them went to jail and were charged and all...but I don't think they were influenced by Twilight or True Blood or anything like that.
Are there Vampire cults that have existed for quite a long time?
vv I agree. By the way the article was written, it sounded like he was clueless to the actual reality of the situation. An institute - and lots of daylight - might be more helpful rather than locking him in a cell...where his ideas of himself might increase.
