Amen. Some people have groundless misconceptions about homeschoolers, and, like you wrote, they don't even try to learn about them. And it makes me very mad at times. My half-brothers are unschooled, and I was public-schooled until a few months ago. Now I do school online. (I'd prefer unschooling, but I'm thankful to be out of my God-awful public school.) I still keep in touch with my old friends from public school, and I've made a few new friends in the local homeschooling community and in my youth group. I'm not terribly social and don't have much desire to be, but I am happy with the quantity and quality of my friendships.

Narcissistic rant aside, this is a good article. (I'm probably biased, being a homeschooler myself, but there's my two cents.)

yeah I get what your saying Im homeschooled to but like you said that doesnt mean I dont have friends, I have plenty of friends though most come from chruch and some ppl my mom knows and from around my house but I mean not being friends from school doesnt make them any less of a friend(s) but Im on and off homeschool like kindergarden 1st 3rd and 5th I was at normal school and it was ok I didnt miss homeschool much sept for me not having to cram as much and not being able to finish my homework in another class if I didnt get to finish it last night besides that I didnt miss home schooling just my parents(I was in a different state when I went to 5th) but that was just for 5th grade I loved kindergarden and 1st but I didnt like 3rd cause the school had changed since Ive been their and it sucked lol and I didnt like my teacher much(she was up tight) but now Im homeschooled again and its ok but it kinda sucks when my parents dont know something and we have to skip it XD lol and they refuse to look in the answer book or sometimes they dont list that part but I like both homeschool and regular school the same its just mostly about what your parents have time for like if they cant send you to one of those groups and they cant teach you they might not wanna do that so its not always the kid chickend out at being in regular school, plus I plan on going next year to regular school for highschool(I just kinda wanna exsperance that part of school at least for a year though I wanna go for the full 4)

Many people I know just think that homeschooling is a way for the kids to get out of work. I don't know about all that (because I am a public schooler), but I believe that, if being at home, having a looser schedule, and not having to deal with jerks helps students learn, homeschooling is a great alternative.

I'm homeschooled - I've been for a year and a half.
I don't get those reactions - thank God, but it seems wrong for people to judge it like that.

I was home schooled for the last year of Secondary school... if I hadn't have been, I would have failed. As it was I did pretty darn well, and made a load of much nicer friends.

Good article :-)

I never knew so many people where home-schooled, seems alot of people on here are, that's pretty cool.
I personally don't know anyone that is home-schooled but I reckon it would be awesome. Much easier than public school, but that's just my opinion.

I know two people who used to be homeschooling, and hell, they have more friends than I do. xD It isn't very different, and yes, they are way more polite.

Pweople do treat homeschoolers strangely. A few of my friends are homeschooled, and some people ac t they have a second head or something. And, I'll bet, generally, homeschooled kids are more polite. Kids in my school- not so much. Rockin' article.

What a wonderful article. So true. I have the exact same problems. People think that because I homeschooled I am some how completely different. I just tell them to fuck off. XD

Good article.
I used to be homeschooled but I went back to school 'cause my brother and I decided we wanted to go to highschool.
I used to love it though I learnt a lot more than I have been at school and I had more free time

Great article! I'm home schooled and have been for about seven years ((since first grade)), but I'm going to a high school ((not a public school though, a Catholic school)) next year. It'll be really different, I'm used to learning at my own pace....

I'm home-schooled. I hate it. It's boring. But, that's just me. I agree with this, though I've been in public school before [most of my life]. I met one of the coolest kids through homeschooling. He was home-schooled his whole life, and surprisingly was VERY normal.

I totally agree with everything you said in this article. I've been homeschooled since the 2nd grade, and personally, I love it! I have tons of friends, both in "real life" and on the internet, I'm getting a wonderful education, and honestly, I thankful that I get to avoid the drama that's going on in the school system.

Bravo! Extremely well written, and wonderful content! Good job!

i love this article! my best friend is home schooled so i get all most as much shit thrown at me for having a 'religious freak' as a best friend as she does for being a 'religious freak'. for god's sake, she doesn't give a shit for or against religion! i don't know where anyone got the idea that she was some teenage nun!

so like i said, I love the article, and thanks for writing it, its nice to know my bestie ain't the only mislabeled kid out there!
