I'm Catholic (and also gay), I'm horrified that the Church would do this. But I just wanted to say that I think comments like "bloody Catholics" and "hence, why I hate religion" aren't entirely fair either. I think cases like this are examples of a loud minority of religious people who give the majority of religious people a bad name. It might just be because of differences in different countries but at least where I live I've never in my life heard a priest at Mass be ignorant or homophobic. I believe in many countries religious groups are moving forward into accepting that what Jesus taught was love and respect. If you support gay marriage then you support human rights, and one of those rights is the right to be religious as long as you don't use it as an excuse to discriminate against people.

DC choose same-sex marriage, though! You need to add an update on this article!

That's disgusting and reeks of hypocrisy that they're going to stop helping the unfortunate just because the gays are trying to reach equal rights. It's hateful and contradictory what they're doing.

My question to you, masqued in black, is: How is it any better for the world to let people starve, leave kids with nowhere to go after school, or leave people sleeping on a park bench? Is that really so much better for the world than for two men you'll never meet who will never affect you in any way getting married? And also, if I might ask--in what way is gay marriage bad for the world? What harm does it do, other than supposedly they won't go to heaven which, again, doesn't affect you?

I don't think this is immaturity. The Church is making a stand for their beliefs. It means that they just don't think gay rights is good for the world.
Don't be mad at me. Those are my opinions.

I'm Catholic, and not homophobic, but... gay rights is against the teachings of the church...

Seriously? The Catholic church, who is suppose to love EVERYONE, wants to cut off support to people in need and children?
And why? All because two people would like to spend the rest of their lives together?
Immature and totally unnessicary. Our government is not based on religion.

    Firstly I'm not Catholic
Secondly, judging by what is being said, and seeing as the church run organisations would be forced, by this legislation, to take a secular stand with those they employ. I believe the church is well within their rights to say this. No religious organisation should be forced to do anything against its beliefs by the state. if they are that church can freely stop anything they are voluntarily doing.

I dont like that they woudl choose not to help those in need. But I can definitly see where theyre coming from.

    good article.
but this is ridiculous! has the catholic church never heard of the good samaritan?! in my honest opinion, i think god would be ashamed to think that people would refuse to help others over anything, let alone something as ridiculous as this! this is a completely immature and selfish thing to have said :/

This is way too immature...and I really hope DC doesn't agree to their demands. (Mainly cause I live in the DC Metropolitan Area, sides, it's just wrong.)

And it might tell other countries that we make decisions based on what the Church wants us to do...Maybe it's my history classes talking, but, idk. May not matter at all...

This is immature. Refusing to help the homeless just because you don't agree with a law? Ridiculous.

    I agree with romanticide,

this is really lame. The Church shouldn't do things like that if they were helping people for the right reasons. I get they don't like gay people, and thats fine, but when it gets in the way of helping people who genuinely need help, that's screwed up.

    This depresses me.
They can't call themselves a church if they are going to go around threatening to drop important programs and charities if a gay rights law is passed.

The church is an immature, greedy cult. They would drop helping people in need, just because one thing didn't go their way. Bastards.
God or not, Equal or not, homosexuals are here to stay. Get over it. Except it and move on.

Wow it really sad to see people act like that. We are all equal and God loves us all if he didn't want gays he wouldn't have made people like that, that's if he is real religious people need to realize that doing this only makes them look like assholes
