We're screwed in London 2012 Smiley
They've already gone overbudget on the Olympic village. And they weren't going to spend that much money anyway. *sigh*
Ah, well. I missed the ceremony. I was...on the plane. And then sleeping. Damn jet lag. And for now being on the opposite side of the world XD

Ah. It was amazing, what I saw anyway.
I fell asleep 10 minutes before New Zealand was due to appear.
Which was the main point to me waiting til 3AM, so obv I was a little pissed.

This is well written, by the way.

I couldn't wait for Russia to appear
But I was really disappointed with the News Cast immediately talking about the war in Georgia. Olympics have nothing to do with all that crap.

I think what made it even worse is that they gave wrong information about the war.
As a Russian I am disappointed that America gives such negative propoganda bout my people.

I watched it in Trafalgar Square! I thought it was INCREDIBLE.....then I was like, 'bugger, how are we EVER going to beat that in 2012..' lol :-)

But I think the whole thing has a bit of a dark shadow over it because of all the human rights stuff...
Thousands of peoples homes were demolished to make way for the birds nest stadium and all of the other olympic venues, and they weren't even compensated by the government.

It was extremely amazing. I sort of wonder how other countries are going to be able to compare to China. Either way it was an awesome, well rehearsed performance.

I totally agree with you, lil_mcr_fan. I think there's gonna be some kind of incredibly f*cked-up terrorist act at our opening ceremony. I was actually thinking about that last night. I reckon it'd be something similar to 7/7 - trains being blown up as everyone leaves. The Olympics'll be postponed or cancelled; innocent people will die and we'll forever be known as the country who ruined the 2012 Games.

And our opening will be shit. The taxpayers are gonna be paying for it - like China, but they aren't in the middle of this insane economical problem. They've just thrown all the money they can at it, whereas we're probably going tospend the minimum we can get away with. Taxes are higher than ever as it is, and with the price of everyting going up anyway...

It was a great political statement, really. It's a massive 'F*ck you' from China to the world. They've shown us what they can do - anything. The astronaut? They've got space exploration covered. The children painting the mountains and reciting the poem? Future generations already in control of global warming - they're coming up with the solution. They're showing that they're pioneers and while the rest of the world is still arguing about what to do, they're getting on with it. The artistic displays, all perfectly in unison? One mind, one heart. One country to control all. China want the rest of the world to think they're the biggest in the world and last night, they proved they can be.

One of the most rediculous things is, Toronto was 2nd place for holding the 2008 Olympics. If they had one Canada would have two Olympics in a row and would be bankrupt because of it...

Of course our olympic opening will be shit, it always is. They're just better funded. Me and a friend think something will happen there. Like the place will be attacked or something like that.

I watched it :]
It was beautiful.
I mean, the guys in the lit-up suits... that was amazing. How much did they have to practise? It was so precise.

I feel sorry for Britain. I know our opening ceremony is gonna suck. And even if it was good, they can't really beat last night.

That was spectacular. I would love to see if Vancouver [WHOO! Go! 2010!] could put on a show that could even light a candle to it.

I watched most of it, but waiting for New Zealand to appear at 3 in the morning is tiring so I went to bed.
I thought it was brilliant, but I have to say that the Sydney Olympic ceremony is my most memorable.

I just saw it and it was amazing.
I would hate to be Vancouver at this point. To follow up something that big would be insane.

The Chinese really know how to start something
