As an employ particularly a cashier of Tesco I understand this.
It is their policy that if the cashier believes that the adult is buying for their child and the child is underage or looks underage, then they can refuse the sale. However it is only supposed to be if the person gives indication that it is for them i.e. handing over money before hand or had been seen picking out the alcohol, etc.
I don't see how the child would feel embarrassed by this, if anything the cashier would be more embarrassed than her, I know I would. We are told though that it is better safe than running the risk of selling to someone who is going to give to younger people.
That's happened to me loads.
My dad was buying some alcohol, they wouldn't sell it to him because I was there.
The same happened when my sister tried to buy some cigarettes.
Wow, how pointless.
I believe if America wouldn't make drinking such a big deal underage kids wouldn't think of themselves as badass when drinking illegally
A gas station did that to my mom once, she was with a friend and the friend was buying beer for a party they were to about attend and the cashier wouldn't sell the beer because my mother didn't have her I.D on her.
My mother and her friend are both 33 year olds. -_-
it's not like she couldn't have given the wine to the kid after. or, if she left the kid home, she could've just bought the wine, go home and give it to the kid. ugh.
