I can't belive the discrimination in society. I mean, if they want to go together they should have every right too! And cancelling the prom for the safety of the students? Just because there were two girls and one wanted to wear a tux dosen't mean their going to bomb the damn place.

I can understand about the tux though. i've heard it's a rule at high-school. At my grade 7 dance they said that girls should wear skirts/dresses but I wore male clothes. No one made ridicule of me or even suggest I change. Guess dance dress codes are stricter at high school.

This is crazy. Going to prom is a one-in-a-lifetime thing, and they cancelled it because a girl wanted to bring her girlfriend to prom and she wanted to wear a tux. That is sick. Not only are they hurting Constance, but they are hurting the whole class invited to the prom.

In Canada two girls can go to prom together...
Friends go together if they can't get dates.
I'm shocked that they cancelled the Prom, however it's understandable that they wouldn't let her wear a tux.

That's acrazy and legally that's classified as a type of discrimanation. And the dress code thing is idiotic.

Dress code wise, i think its normal that she wasn't allowed to wear a tux. Most schools proms make girls wear dresses and boy wear tux's. Girls usually aren't allowed to wear pants. Cancelling a prom because of request seemes over the top. If her girlfriend went to the school i see a problem with that, but i do see how you can limit other schools from going to the prom. I think they should have just say no pants for girls and no out of school students. A lot easier

This is sad.

I'm not taking sides, but I'm sure the girl who wants to wear a tuxedo wasn't so sweet about it in the first place. In an interview she seemed to have a lot of attitude/was behaving immaturely.

What I just remembered is that there was a movie similar to this called Prom Queen... It's similar to this girl's story only instead it was two guys and everything...

But really, this is hella fucked up. Just because she's a lesbian, does not mean they should cancel the whole freaking thing! And it's not like people would really be bothered by them. They're just two other people who wanted to enjoy a dance together...

This is just so... dumb. I heard about this happening and was disgusted. I mean, really? Two girls want to go to prom together. So what? Why the fu|ck would you cancel a fu|cking prom just because of that? Homosexuals are being harrased everywhere and it makes me sick. Homosexuals aren't any less dangerous than heterosexuals if not less so. I was reading the comments on this page and cried. I can't stand the clase mindedness of modern society. I hate to bash people, but they're bashing gays.I can't believe the world we live in sometimes...

So stupid.

Just when you thought America and the world was coming to accept homosexuals something as stupid as this comes up -- which they put to "the fear of the safety of the students". What, really? >__>

Great, informative article but I'm thinking maybe you should've said something about her being on Ellen if you put that as the article's fitting picture? :]

Wow, really? I think one of the reasons I really resent this isn't just because I'm a lesbian but I live in Northampton. We live in a friggen bubble of acceptance. I'm only a sophomore, and I already have a date to prom, and my date is in fact a girl. My prom isn't being canceled for it? My question is, how in the world would they know your date was a girl in the first place? Do you have to ask to bring someone to prom? I find this weird because the only time I've ever heard of having to ask was when you were bringing someone in from another school, and you don't even have to ask to bring them. You just need to ask for the papers. I find this happening in Mississippi to be completely ridiculous. Sorry enough to say =/ it looks like the world still has allot to learn. I hope she gets her prom back, tux girlfriend for her date all.

Thats so stupid. If you ban same sex dates you should also ban dates in general. There's no difference, really. Its people. Period. Drugs and alcohol would be there anyway.

yeah im wondering why in the first place they banned same sex dates what will happen that wouldnt happen with dates of the opposite sex what harm are they doing by bringing someone of the same gender this is just stupid and the rule was probably made by some closed minded twits

Out of all the arguments I have yet to see a counter argument on the opposing counsel. Maybe the school canceled prom to protect the students from themselves and the odd balls who came together for prom and were both the same gender. Maybe they were afraid others would do the same. Ah ha that was too funny man do I crack myself up *wipes tears off face*. Seriously lesbo's what's so wrong with that? We've had segregation, rascism, fought each other in brutal wars, global warming, extinction of animals, and were worried about two girls of the same gender liking each other. But then again, what school would want to be known for having all gender couples at their prom, I surely wouldn't.
