The Royal Baby

Today, at 16:24 GMT at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, the heir to the British throne was born, weighing 8lb 6oz.

Press flocked to the hospital in their hundreds and have been awaiting this royal arrival for days, though they missed when the Duchess entered the hospital after going into labour early that morning.

When doing a visit to a town a few days ago, the Queen was asked about the royal baby and said "I do hope they arrive soon, for I am going on holiday." A Buckingham Palace spokesman declared that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were "delighted at the news".

In line with tradition, the news will also be displayed on an ornate easel in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, which also happened upon Prince William's birth. It has been confirmed by staff at St Mary's that Prince William was present for the birth.

The hospital has also revealed that The Duchess of Cambridge and her child are doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.

This may be a small child now, but he has been born into responsibilities, duties and he will in time become the King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth countries.
