I know what you mean, talk to him about it, and if he insists on being an ass obviously he wasn't a good friend so just quit being his friend. You don't deserve "friends" like that, and that's just how you'll have to think about it...

I know how you feel that happens to me a lot, though I don't do art. My friend mess with my stories and writes on it in marker or dumps drink on it. I get mad at her then she asks me why I'm upset. Just take a deep breath and let him know how you feel or something.
