Yeah I watched Gattaca last year and I loved it. It was one of my reasons beside the article to choose the topic. Most likely it will be on the moral scale which puts us in a difficult position. If we argue the discrimination and the negative sides of it and say that this hurt humanity more that help individuals, we still have a chance. We can also bring up the reasons why 37 countries have a ban on sex selection.

    Thanks for your help :)

v Maybe you can try looking up legal reasons for limiting abortion. I think the reasoning would be similar. Though I do think that any opposition to genetic engineering would be more on the side of morals than anything else.

Yeah, that's a big part of our argument for eugenics. However, our legal argument is still dead XD

We have to work on it...

v There's a movie based on that exact premise, where the kids who are 'engineered' are prized above the unengineered kids because they're considered genetically superior. It's called Gattaca. It's fiction, of course, but it does have some good points.

I don't know if this will help, but...

If parents had to pay more for a "designer baby", it's very likely that a lot of people won't be able to afford it. So now when you have a "designer baby" and normal, un-engineered child going to school together, the un-engineered child is likely to be made fun of, assuming it is the minority. The "designer baby" is likely to be more physically attractive, which, at least in my school, makes those "pretty" people think they rule the entire world.

With Eugenics you can bring in things like Hitler and the Nazi party. Hitler was a big supporter of Eugenics (wanted to create the 'perfect' race - Aryan).

There's also a bunch of lit on eugenics and "designer babies." They're fiction (mostly dystopian literature) but it does show how these things could effect the future.
