Oh wow, I totally forgot about this since it doesn't notify you if you've been commented. Hah. Silly me. But thanks regardless. That makes a lot of sense.

No, fanfictions aren't considered original - you can't categorize your story as an original fiction or it's fanfiction. You can make fanfiction original by having a unique and interesting plot - and how you write has an effect as well. But other than that, you should label fanfiction as fanfiction.

For example, if you write a fanfiction and it has an original idea surrounding it, you still can't tag it as original fiction. If that makes sense.

I wouldn't label fanfics as orignial fics, because they have their own label. But I think fanfics can be original, with the exception of the characters. I'm sick of people being like "fan fictions suck; they're not original."

    BULLSH!T

Some of the best stories I've ever read or written have been fanfics.

It is original in that sense. But in writing types, it doesn't qualify as original fiction. Original fiction is when you have made up all the characters yourself. If it has a band member as a main character, it is fanfiction. And it cannot be labeled as original fiction, that's against mibba rules.
