I agree with ladyschei but not all 'emos' cut themselves. I guess I fit into the 'emo' category. I could care less though, even when it gets annoying. If you want to be 'emo', then be it. If you don't, don't. Everyone is always going to have an opinion on what it means. I don't see why everybody attacks the lable 'emo' though. It's the same for every lable.

The whole idea of emo, to me, is just a mixture and rip-off (a bad one at that) of goth, new-wave and punk. New wave and punk are my two favorite genres, but mixing them with the gothic subculture is retarded. Emo is just dramatic, bored teens looking for something to be.

Im not even sure if emo could be considered a type of person, really, because half the ones that really are seem to deny it, while punks and any other group of people are very proud of it.

If emo kids don't want to be bullied, then they should stop professing "omg i'm emo and if you don't like it, get over it". That's my personal opinion. I label myself because it's just something my Asperger's mind enjoys doing, and thankfully kids who dress scene half the time and dress indie the other half don't get much hate. But seriously. There was a time when the whole emo movement thing made sense, but now it's more of a media topic or something. :/

Kids that wear black are normally considered "emo." But "emo" is actually supposed to be a type of music (that's how it started, anyway) and not a lable for kids.

Real "emos" are those who wear black, listen to screaming music, cut their wrists, etc.

I wear skinny jeans, black, listen to all that music, so if I had to be labeled, it would be "emo."

But "emo" goes so much beyond looks and music, in reality, but that's not how others see it. Others see it as wearing dark clothes. Honestly, I think all types of labels are stupid, but even I label myself. So, I guess there really won't be a way to stop the labeling unless parents stand up and teach kids what they do to bring down others is wrong.

Now, this is just my opinion, but I'm sure many have other opinions as well. :)

Punks were claiming that the Emos had stolen their fashion ideas, such as skinny jeans and studded belts.
