I just want to throw it out there, experience is key. Just because you didn't get what you want doesn't mean you won't later. With a bit of experience under your belt you'll be more appealing to the director. The first audition i had was for years ago for 'A Murder Is Announced' I didn't make it so I waited for the spring production of 'Little women' I ended up only as chorus, but I was excited to just be able to experience it. The next year I auditioned for 'the miracle worker' i didn't make it, but instead i did crew and I really got to have the director get to know me and she liked me a lot. Later that year I auditioned for 'the music man' and to my surprise i got a minor role as Mrs. Squires. Now we're up to my junior year and the fall play is Alice in Wonderland, as usual I audition and I wasn't really expecting much so when the cast list was posted I had to read it three times to be sure that i really was the Queen Of Hearts. Later that year our musical was Oklahoma and surprisingly I got one of the main roles as Aunt Eller. I actually had the most lines after Curly and I made history as the first person to start a production alone on stage. So just work really hard to impress your director and let them come to know you and trust you. Practice really does make perfect. I'm auditioning for Blithe Spirit next week, and I hope to be Madame Arcati or Elvira.

i know the major disappointing feeling you get when you don't get what you want in theatre. twice, i haven't even made the cast at all and got that kind of deep hole pit type thing in my stomach. but i joined crew and had just as much fun as anyone else and got the same experiences. i've only ever been chorus too and i like it a lot cuz you kind of get to chill back stage, like a techie, but you get to go onstage too. i promise you that, yes, you're probably super sad that you're not lead but you will love the show regardless. and you could turn your minor character into a memorable minor character (like Dean or Seamus or Scarfy) even if you don't get any lines. But i wish you best of luck and break a leg at whatever happens

Ugh, so it didn't let me finish typing it, so here is the rest, lol.

Of course I came back, and auditioned. I thought I did really well, but when the results came out, guess what?
I can't remember the name of it, but basically I was a back up actress. If one could no longer perform, I stepped in. That was it.
Later, I got put on sound, because our sound tech quit.
During the performance, the school we were at's sound board messed up on us and since that was known to happen to all other school's but the said school we were at, the teachers were mad.
You know what they told me at the end of it all? "We're bringing our own sound board next year so you'll have to learn to hook it up."
Basically, they pre-decided I was now their sound tech and not going to act anymore. I should have been happy that everyone was so proud of my performance as a sound tech, but it really hurt that they didn't even consider that I might want to act.

Of course, I'm going to try out for Fall Production this year anyway and we'll see how it goes down, lol.

I feel like I should share my own 'bitter disappointment' with you, so maybe you don't feel so alone:D

I moved to this town last summer. I had been in a drama class which was a teaching class about acting, playwriting, etc. the previous school year and I had been in a musical [while I did not get the main part, I did get a significant role] so I had a bit of experience [not much, but it was something]. I discovered they did theater through an after school program called "Back Stage Players." I went and auditioned for the Fall Production and landed the lead role. As a SOPHOMORE. I was stoked, forreal. I had a lot of trouble, though, throughout the rehearsals and 'growing' in my character but in the end, I shocked both my teacher's and myself with my performance. They told me a million times to come back for One-Act, which is a competition between the other schools in our district.

    v. Yeah, I guess :/ Then again, that's what I did all summer, too.
IDK. I just need to get over it before tomorrow, that's all.
