Why do we read? - Comments

We read for many reasons. Here are the main ones:

1. To get something off our mind
2. To just go someplace else for a while
3. To pretend we are the main character so everything that happens to them feels like it's happening to us
4. To find new ideas; to entertain ourselves with the time we need to kill

I revel in the alternate worlds and the study of the human consciousness. The very idea that one person can house the personalities of several others within their head amazes me, and I have to read more and more to see what the next author can do.

I write, because of the personalities in my head trying to get out.

I completely agree with all of you, I don't think I could have put it a better way. when I asked myself this question, I found there were soo many possible answers I wasn't exactly sure of why I read anymore. But I do know that its also pretty 'dangerous' in a way; it means that some nights I'm up till four am just reading and that the adventure, danger and romance the characters all go through, I go through as well which also has me lusting for adventure, danger, the perfect guy e.t.c. Which is not something I know I should be wanting, or maybe that's just me (: x

Because there's so much talent out there that I love to discover.

To block the whholes in hearts and go to a better place.

To drown into the world of another. To leave ours behind and travel into another place far from our grasp.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else.
But I read as an escape from reality, to be someone else if only for an hour.
To feel another feeling, to live another life.
To have something worth coming back to, instead of this hell hole.
To enlighten myself with fantasies and truths.
To have someone care even if they are nothing but words.

I read, because I am a writer.
I read, because I am a dreamer.
I read because I find a comfort, a strength, and an adventure in just one simple sentence.
I read to feel the magic that the author has created for me, and everyone else.

To fill that empty space where something is missing.
