People write great stories with practice. I'd like to think I'm doing pretty well when it comes to writing, and you should've seen the crap I wrote when I first started. It's really just practice, I think. You develop the skill on your own. If you read good stories, you write good stories.
First, I think you really need to just get inspired. And stop worrying about measuring up to other people, writing should be about you. It's not about where you fall on a scale compared to other people and famous authors, it's about how well you're doing compared to other things you've written and how you feel about it and if you're putting your heart into it.
Choose a topic and get a writing woman!
