Vampires have been really popular for like, ever.. Shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then the spin-off show Angel were very successful back in the day when they first were airing.

I don't think Twilight has destroyed anything. I read the books back when I was in elementary and middle school and I'm still fond of them. It's Pop Culture, hon. It's popularity. Once the last two films come out and a few years pass by, just like anything else, it'll be spoken about less. It's a big hoo-doo right now because of the Media. It makes money, they're going to bleed it for all it's worth.

The people you should blame are teenage fan girls.
seriously, if it wasn't for them, Hollywood would have never created this big 'vampire-werewolf-love-crap' thing.
its just another thing for romance. The funny thing is that when i was younger (maby 9ish) I was really afraid of vampires. But after I saw the movie, I wasn't afraid anymore.

Hi, Twilight saga fan here since '05.
The Twilight Saga is a great story in itself.
As for the sparkling thing, It's a way Stephanie (The author) made the whole vampire thing her own. I'm pretty sure you've never heard of any vampire sparkling in the sun before twilight.
The story isn't about pure vampires. It's about the obstacle of being a vampire from Edwards' part and what that means for Bella. And how the pull of Bella's blood is dangerous for Edward because he loves her. It's just obstacles. Really if you don't think about the vampire aspect of things, It's all a legit love story.
The Twilight vampires are completely different from...I don't know Anne Rice's vampires. But they have similarities. Even Dracula had a soft spot for Mina.
I do agree Twilight is EVERYWHERE. But that's only the doing of Hollywood. It's not Twilight's fault that everything corresponds with werewolves and/or vampires. It's just a way of bringing in more money. Hollywood does it ALL THE TIME. For example, Harry Potter.
And I think Twilight opened the doors for a lot of great vampire stories/authors. I've read countless stories by other authors and they were amazing, and yet, nothing like Twilight.

Yeah Teen Wolf is terrible. And i mean i like Twilight but its definitly over rated and i really dont want it everywhere i go. It makes me angry. grrrr. D:<

i know its taking over everything....and edward that vampire dude sparkles in the sun arent they supposed to burn? i like vampires but not teen vampires...and when i watched it i was like that wasnt as great as i thought i would be. i dont like twilight and now its everywhere!
