Depends, really. If it's your best friend or something, then I think it's OK to say it really early on.
If it's someone you didn't really know, and part of your relationship is getting to know each other, then I'd wait until you knew them.

I don't think you can know.
Love is an emotion, therefore not something you rationally know.
So it is funny that people say that.

Either that or you don't have enough faith in your feelings.

It's funny though because people always say you *know* when you're in love.

    v.My thoughts exactly!
But those words are coming from some people who have some... shall we say... illogical thoughts about alot of other topics as well.
Yeah, if you're unsure after a year, I'd say the relationship isn't working too well.

A year, are you serious? That seems a bit crazy. To me, and this may sound harsh, but if you don't know if you're in love after twelve months then when are you going to know?

Hmmm I suppose that does complicate things.
Most people (I know quite a few) would say that even a year is too short of an amount of time.
I disagree completely with that statement.
I think less than three is too short, but ideally I'd say anywhere from 3-6.
But I'm just cautious in nature now, when it comes to relationships.

OK, what about two strangers who haven't been friends before they start dating? I reckon it'd be about three months then. Maybe? It's tricky.

I suppose the real question how soon is not soon?

saveroftheworld: In that case, even though it might seem really soon to some people, it's understandable how it happened. After all, it's not like you only knew him a week before you started going out or something strange like that.

@ GhostChicken - I probably should have said - me and my boyfriend were friends before we started going out.

@ Isadora Pierce - I know what you mean about it being soon. But it was like I couldn't *not* say it, you know?

I think it depends on the length of time you know someone rather than the length of time you have been dating.

For example, my ex told me that he loved me about two weeks into our relationship, but I had known him for quite some time prior to us actually starting a relationship.

I believe it's all relative to the individual people and their feelings/maturity level.

I'm not one to judge or anything, but I think nine days in is way too soon. BUT, some people love faster than others and if that's what he feels then that's what he feels, I guess. I think it should be a month or so before people start throwing around the L word.
