I would have to agree with young favorite.
And it sounds like he's using your closeness against you. Like, he knows you're closer to him and trust him more so he thinks he knows you're going to choose him. Its seems like he's trying to use you to hurt her, which is just wrong.
He should just get over himself and not drag you into this or you should let it backfire in his face.

I don't care what the situation is; it's wicked selfish of him to ask something like that of you. I don't think that's fair at all, and he's definitely not worth being friends with if he's going to be like that.

Um. This is super obvious. No one is worth your friendship if they ever ask you to choose between then and someone else. He has issues.

I don't know if this'll work for you, but when i was in a similar situation, I told my friends that if they cared about out friendship, they'd never make me choose. But in different words.
