I can't say I know much about Japan...Other than their war with Russia and "The Rape of Nanking"...but I doubt you'd ever want to include that information. Good luck.

I'm using Immersion to learn, but it's fairly pricey. I would suggest just googling sites to help you, there are a lot of sites out there that can give you the basics. I will tell you, Japanese is not easy to learn because English and Japanese are so different from each other. But it is a language well worth the struggle to learn. I am not very good in Japanese, but I can tell you basic phrases such as 'good morning' and how to say goodbye and stuff like that in Romaji, I can't help with any of the symbols. I can also teach you a few things about Japanese customs you probably should know. The Japanese expect you to know and respect their customs when you visit their country because it is the right thing to do. Message me if you want. (:

I agree with Bella on the essay. I personally could think of hundreds of things to say about Japan because I have dreamed of going there for years. If you truly want to go, you will be able to write a full essay on it. Your essay should be your reasons and your reasons alone. If you truly want this, you'll be able to do it. Besides, this will give you a chance to learn Japanese history. Japan has got a fascinating history.

Please use proper capitalization, punctuation and grammar in your journals.

I'm using Rosetta Stone to learn Japanese, and it's very helpful.
The essay on why you want to write should ONLY come from YOUR ideas, otherwise it's not actually why you want to go and thus you shouldn't really be allowed to go. Look up your own stories, facts, etc, and find why you want to go there.
