There's this thing called the Butterfly Project that's an anti-self harm organization. Basically, you draw a butterfly on the place you want to cut. You name it after someone you care about and if you cut there, you kill the butterfly and essentially the person with the same name. You let the butterfly fade naturally and then redraw it when you feel the need to self harm again.
It's really remarkable and I've used it countless times. That's what I think of when I think of butterflies.
I think of the butterfly effect. They say a flap of a butterfly's wings can cause a tornado in the other side of the world if the timing's just right.
