Thanks for the input guys. I wasn't so sure if pedophelia was caused by mental illness or as DarkestStorm pointed out, a chemical imbalance. I'm not saying all pedophiles are rapists, but they do have an attraction towards kids.

When I was comparing pedophiles and same sex relationships, I wasn't sure, again, if pedophelia was a mental illness. People love who they love and they can't help it, which applies to everyone. But I wasn't sure if this applied to pedophiles, do they love little children simply because they can't help who they fall in love with? Or is it just a mental illness?

I hope this cleared up the correlation between the two!

I had to write a paper about pedophilia in a book the other day. Didn't do too well on it. I think they have a chemical imbalance in their brain causing them to act on their thoughts.

Sometimes I feel like there are two kinds of pedos I mean the ones that rape and then the ones that just fall in love with a teen. I don't know that's just me though. But I agree with hemingway because I also do not see the connection with same sex marriage and pedos

This is a really tricky subject. It's like ... of course if an adult has sex with say a teen (teen is still a child) they are automatically classified as pedophiles right? But, maybe in the teens mind there's nothing wrong with it; it's either just love or just sex.

I mean, we have children marrying children and having children today, the only difference with pedophiles is that they have a few more years on them.

Now as it relates to babies/toddlers/preschoolers; there's no arguments there, that's just sick all across the board because those little tykes don't even know what sex is. But I feel as it relates to teens, pedophiles aren't always rapists.

We have teens raping adults, so; I don't know. This is a really touchy topic.

passion paradoz; I think there is just something wrong with them, mentally. It must be a mental illness. Some of them know they have it and live actively resisting, and getting them, and good for them for recognizing the problem! They're not all bad people, something must just be wrong with them mentally. And some of them are just malicious, and those are the bad people.

Pedophiles aren't always rapists, but they can be. Pedophilia is an abnormal interest in children. Whether or not a person acts sexually upon that interest is what does or does not make them rapists. And Pedophilia isn't like a sexual orientation, so I'm not understanding the association you're giving the disorder to same sex relationships other than both situations being taboo.

I think the reason for pedophilia is because children and adolescents are easier to deceive, easier to convince, and easier to physically conquer.

It's also a matter of power. Older people enjoy the authority which they possess over youth.

Sometimes pedophiles are very sick. Not in the 'that sick bastard' sense. But the mental health sense. Actually. All of them are. I'm not saying they don't realize what they're doing is wrong, but it may be true for at least a few of them. If you've got enough of a mental illness, your brain could convince you of anything. I don't think that it's impossible for an older man to look at a child and fall in love with them. Pedophiles do lust for children, but I think it's possible for anyone to love anything if they thought it beautiful enough.

Pedophiles aren't in love. When you're in love, you respect the other person. A pedophile is violating someone else against their wishes.
