Writing a fanfiction should be no different than writing an original fiction. Take it seriously, know your facts, stay inside your canon and you should be good. Don't assume we know what Kate and William look like, describe your characters and their surroundings! Have fun with it. :)

I agree with the two comment below. You need to know as much as possible about the people, their situation, their personalities, and how they speak. You want to be as realistic as possible. It is fiction, but good fan-fiction rides a thin line between fiction and non-fiction. In my fan-fictions, there are times in the story where what I'm writing is completely true. Base your story on real life events (or at least throw them into the mix so that people who know about Kate & William will be like "Oh yeah. I remember that.")

So there's the best tip I could give. Know you topic & be as realistic as possible. (:

I agree with Wicked Schemes, do your research first before writing something like that.
That's one rule I have when it comes to fan-fiction especially when it deals with people, drugs, diseases, etc. Wink

    Good Luck with your story.

Firstly you should be knowledgeable on your topic of interest, you don't write book report without reading the book do you. I'd start there.
