My computer has crashed more times than I'd like to admit, and I think you might remember a little while back when it died unexpectedly and I lost everything - pictures, assignments, and something like eight un-posted chapters of my fan fictions. So I learned from my mistakes.
When I'm done writing for the day (and sometimes just at random intervals throughout said day), I back my work up in two different ways. Firstly, I email myself a copy of the chapter and put it in a "back up" folder. Then I get on Facebook and also save the chapter as a private note to myself.
Both of these have saved me from having to re-write a bunch of chapters again, because my computer died on me again just a few weeks ago - I had to get my hard drive physically replaced, and thus lost everything again. So maybe something like this can help you, too. =)
If you want to be a serious writer, you need to back-up. I learned it the hard way.
